Absolutely don't worry about the Legendaries right away. Your priority before the end of 2020 will be to (1) craft the class-specific Relics and (2) acquire any URs needed for the Legendary recipes. Once you have done that then you can wait until you are ready to craft the Legendaries, if ever.

Thank you for any advice.

This will really depend on how many UR's you need and how much your group is willing to spend. For a newer group, I would lean a little heavier to the buying from peoples stores. (For full disclosure, I have a small store) My logic is that you seem to be past the needing the Rares stage because you're looking at UR's. The rest of an order either 1K or 8K and you can order multiple 1K orders contain a lot of "Nifty" stuff but it may not be the most relevant "Stuff" for your group.
Take a look at the rest of the tokens below UR and see if you can get enough utility out of them to justify the order.

Best of Luck John!

BTW I would say Kirk's advice is Spot On

Wait until after the market is established. The Rogue's shoes and Druid's belt are not going to go for much based on the Onyx baselines that have been established for them. ?Probably? less than a PYP.

A 1k order is hard to balance. It's helpful if you REALLY need tokens to mulch, but some of the auctions had those trade goods going for bargain prices.

Prioritize the Kilts > class-specific. Those are good for every class no matter what.

kirk is offering great advice. i just see one "hitch".

sometimes rares and uncommons are required in recipes for relics and legendaries. i would suggest grabbing those as soon as possible and holding onto them. might be difficult to find 4-5 years down the road. they tend to find their way to the mulcher. :pinch:

I think 18 PYPs will go better this year than an Onyx C/UC/R/UR Set.

In the auction I ran 28 of 34 PYPs were kilts and ioun stones. Only 6 or 7 different 2019 PYPs were selected.

Trade goods are available at very good prices. All except Golden Fleece right now.

Finished relics often sell for half the cost of the components. People with a stockpile of goods need something to dump them into.

So, one approach is: none of the above. Save your money until your relics show up for $250-300 and buy them finished.

And if they don’t go that low, you can always get the PYPs and make them later.

Legendaries are another story. You may want to snag the URs etc, but you have until 2020 to get them PYP

I suppose that depends on the cost of the components. Trade goods are nearly all cheaper than ever.

I haven't done the math, but if one assumes the lowest published preorder price es for all items, I would imagine you can get close to the 250 to 300 number.

The addition of golden fleece messes with the prices a bit from historic relics, though. Based on the prices I paid from the blitz of auctions on trade goods, the Lute of Free fury is going to cost $194.75 in trade goods, but that is not including the fleece since I already have one on hand. That brings the relic to just under $300.

I imagine if I bought a whole super condensed 8K pack and sold off everything but the trade goods, the cost would be substantially less.

Interesting. I did the same analysis for Greater Shaman's Necklace. I used the pricing on Wade's 2nd auction to baseline the price for trade goods. The Necklace was just over $350 using those numbers (Fleece included). I wonder if the Lute requires more Planks/Stones/Silk. I'll have to look when I get a moment.

Plank, Silk, and Stones are the most common ingredients by number in the lute, and the 2 recipies are really close, with the necklace needing more dwarven steel in place of some of the cheaper ingredients. I participated in the last 4 auctions, putting low bids in on each one on many trade goods, and never updating my bids, so I may have gotten better than average prices than just picking one auction for all the goods.

*edit*, or I may have a bug in my equation in excel and its giving me the wrong price. That is always a possibility.

Last years relics also contained fleece, or at least one of them did.

I think in general buying outright tends to settle at a price that is less than the cost of the components.

Given that the cost of the components is in flux, the relic cost can be higher or lower, depending.

Is your equation:

$194.75
UR Lute (~$95)
Golden Fleece? (~$45)

If so, I guess they do pretty much cost the same.
