Reasons to not go:

-Texas is on my list of states to never visit.
-The plane ride would be long
-The trip would be relatively pricey and I've already blown a hole in the budget with trips to disney, new cons like pax unplugged, tokens, etc.
-I was planning to schedule that last surgery for the start of January. Could still do it upon getting back but it just takes away a week of healing before next convention at end of February.
-Having just went through my first PAX experience I have a whole series of four-letter words to share about some of their management.

Reasons to go:

-I've got more spare time than most people
-Clearly I am indispensable and the entire venture could fail without me

Keep us updated on how the recruitment is going. I'm leaning towards not schleping my way down to Texas but if there is some sort of dire manpower crunch, I'd have more wiggleroom than most people.

I personally would love to see you there, if you do decide it will work with your health and commitments.

Good luck, my friend!

You forgot two important pro vs. con arguments:
  • If you stay (home) there will be trouble
  • If you go (to PAX South) it will be double.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

I haven't decided yet either if I'm going to put in the vol app. Flights from Chicago are reasonable, but I would have to take 2 vacation days from work and 2018 is looking really tight unless I can get extra days off. I could skip Wed/Thu at Gen Con but I'd rather not.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

As a Texan I believe everyone should go to San Antonio once. The Alamo, the river walk, the Alamo. Ok I’m not even trying to hide my Texas biases, hope to see you there.

As soon as I saw the thread title, my thoughts went in the same direction as Druegar's.

Just remember: TD will gladly use your volunteer hours. They'll work you hard.

Well, if you go you will want to be prepared. I'd go with a halberd myself.

According to a quick Google search, the last public stabbing in TX was in May, four months before this law went into effect. I’m pretty sure it’s a non-issue.
