Hopefully, the DM's for this event will make concessions for under-geared players. Is Eric running this all weekend?

Even with a great wizard build on loan from Harlax, I was underpowered for TDC. Raven (one of the three DMs) was absolutely awesome in coaching. (No surprise there.) She bumped a bunch of my stats on the party card so that I had a prayer of staying alive long enough to have some fun. But death did come fast. And twice. (The last and final death in a glorious suicidal lightning storm with MEC.)

I hope the coaches/DMs will be prepared to do something similar for underpowered players at Origins. It was great.

Nevertheless, this event is kind of like Tracy Hickman’s Killer Breakfast. Expect to die. Question is whether you can do so with glory. Or at least dignity.

Glory, sure.

Dignity? Does being polymorphed into a duck sound like dignity to you? :P

I guess you have never heard of the Kung Fu Master
Howard the Duck.
Extremely Smart and with high Dignity.

And if that were the variety of duck that resulted all would have been fine.

But it was the mundane version that could be crushed into pulp by a single stomp of the Jeffagorgon.

Not a bad choice, but you're assuming the gaze attack is for petrification. I think the safest strategy is just prepare to die and then you won't be disappointed.

My guess is we should be prepared for petrification/gaze attacks along with large group damage. Gorgon always concerns me as a term that it could reference the Illiad and mean water-based trouble that may merit being prepared for.

As I design my character, I was thinking ranged rogue. My AC can go anywhere between mid 20's to mid 30's. It sounds like there aren't that many physical attacks (especially for backline characters). It also sounds like when there are physical attacks, they are hitting AC 40 anyway so it doesn't matter what our AC is?

From a defense perspective, it sounds like we optimize saves, magic resistance, status effect resistance, and have potions, etc ready to apply to other characters for resolving status effects (and/or raise dead). Does that sound right? (even if it means only going in with a 25 AC)?

We went down the same path last year with the speculation about the Jeffagorgon. The Gorgon speculation was wrong. It was a play on Demogorgon. This year? Who knows. Break out the silver mirrors? Or be ready for a gas based attack ala the classic D&D Gorgon?

Go with Moonhide/Starhide/Sunhide Robe to boost ranged attack and reflex saves?

Charming Crown or Crown of Iron Will to boost saves?
