Grind was generally the answer for 'why would i ever use this obscure token or random preventative or special effect'. Lot of environmental effects, or hey half the party needs to sleep while the other carries on but need to take off your armor if you're wearing heavy armor. Or cold or hey it's nightime you better have a light source and a potentially a hand to hold it (if using a torch you couldn't use offhand slot for example).

Taught me a lot about tokens and how to treat bards as chewtoys that's for sure while playing grind.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I have a "large" bag of tokens sitting waiting for the next Grind!

So, in recent years (past 10 years or so), Eric (Incognito) has been the primary DM as well as the module designer for Grind. He doesn't have the combat boards -- he just tells Jeff which ones he needs and Jeff brings them (usually we get one or two new ones each year). My favorite times playing True Dungeon have been playing Grind. My favorite times volunteering for True Dungeon have been volunteering as DM for Grind.

Unfortunately, Grind has had some challenges. It has always been the "red-headed step child" from a space, resource, and ticket sales perspective. It has oftentimes been an afterthought (in my experience).

The latest challenge is that Eric/Incognito has been missing in action for a while now. It was happening a bit before Covid, but I haven't been in touch with him for at least 3 years now. I'll be giving him a call soon.

It's too late for GenCon, but I'd love to help bring back Grind in the future. Next to Eric and Raven, I think I'm the most experienced Grind DM. But I certainly don't have the creativity that Eric has when putting together Grind modules.

Thank you so much for the input and replies everyone. I was really looking forward to to trying TG for the first time this year. I usually only play at GenCon- may have to look into another con if TG makes its triumphant return!

I just called Incognito. He has been too busy this year and also it seems he is burned out from full time volunteering. He also can't attend very many cons in a year.

I also know that finding volunteers was a challenge for GenCon. But me and at least one other DM are willing to volunteer to make Grind happen again in the future.

I'm thinking there is maybe a way that we can get a few volunteers together and work with Incognito to design a new Grind for a convention after GenCon, even if he doesn't attend.

I miss Grind so if I can help bring it back I will. I'll see if I can discuss it with Jeff at SkullCon.

Can expand the conversation to include various other players since Skull Con is pretty much a TD summit.

Volunteer availability is an issue. I asked a few years ago if I could help out on grind, but was told they needed me in the main dungeon, I imagine that's the case for a lot of vols. That said if there Jeff was willing to let us do grind again I'd be happy to help out. (Not that I've been secretly considering pitching a weird virtual grind or anything )

I’d be happy to help write and play test an adventure as well as volunteer to help run it. I could do Friday until 4p for GenCon.

I know it would be a short turn around, but it sounds like time would work out for trying it at Skullcon on Saturday. Again, I’d be happy to help,

I suspect space and demand would be the bigger issues for SkullCon.

Kirk, thanks for any efforts to make this a reality once again. Grind is awesome. And if you talk to Incognito again please tell him Rob says hello. I miss that guy.
