TOPIC: Don't Forget the VTD Consumables

Don't Forget the VTD Consumables 2 years 3 weeks ago #1

Just a reminder that consumables used in VTD events are to be bagged and given to new players at your next in-person Con. I use the smaller felt bags from TD. It is very rewarding to see the expressions on the new players faces when you give them a bag of tokens.

I will be at GenCon and GameHoleCon and available to distribute any token bags if you cannot make it to GenCon or GameHoleCon. You can put a note in the bag "Compliments of ____________" if you so desire. I did this for people not able to go to GameHoleCon last fall and it was successful.

Let me know if you need someone to help you out.

I'm assuming we are all not bringing these to skull con?

I was considering it for the humor, but then I looked at how many tokens that would involve moving around.

I don't think distributing used consumables at Skull Con aligns with the spirit of the edict because there will be very few, if any, newbies there.
And if there is a newbie at SC, that poor person would likely be so inundated with consumable tokens they couldn't move. ;) :P
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

My group has been using fewer consumables in 2022 than we did in 2021, but I’ve started a pile of the ones we have used so far. My plan was to bring them to Gen Con, since Skull Con is unlikely to have many newbies on hand.

I will be at Skull Con too but I did not think it was a good one to take these since the majority of adventurers are not newbies and it is not open to everyone (Need a Skull or Patron Code). Thank you Druegar for the post.

I tried giving some away at GHC last year and had trouble finding that many new players. I gave away less than half of what I brought. I've added to that since then and will bring with me to GENCON! Those I did give tokens to at GHC were very thankful!

I had difficulty finding newbies at GHC as well. I was at the TD Window out front and they graciously took my bags and said the coaches could distribute them to newbies. I was very grateful. At this point, I plan to just bring what I have to Gen Con. I don't use many (maybe 6-8 every event), but it adds up over time.

My friend's son is playing for the first time at Skull Con, but he doesn't need stacks of consumables. :)

It might be easier if there's a drop off point at GenCon for all the used items and then in Coaching a stack of consumables are handed out.

It's a little more work for TPTB, but it would ensure that tokes get to people that need them.

I think this was a polite request from TD to self-govern ourselves. I do not think they want to be involved.

I like the idea about felt bags. I am also excited that most of the consumables are pretty decent like distilled healing potions, good scrolls, folios, and ghosts. The will get some useful things!
