Nice! So no need to install anything on your computer, you could just go to a specified web address and it took care of everything? Did you have to have a camera on your computer/device, or could you participate without one?

You would need a camera to verify tokens

Can you take a photograph to forward, or do you need to have a video feed?

Actually, let me double-back on that.... having done the run at 1am (UK time) I wasn't at my most awake, and have belatedly realised that even if I joined via url yesterday it would still have defaulted into running the Zoom client I already have installed on my laptop. With that said I believe you can still use Zoom via a web app without needing to install it, and we had people joining via various devices. Some of us turned on our cameras to chat beforehand but not in the actual run. Hopefully details like verification of tokens in future runs, etc will be communicated in one of the coming updates, I'm not sure whether they have made any final decisions yet.
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

I'm sure you're right, that they are actively figuring out the path forward based on the Patrons experience. The great thing is that people seemed to have loved it, and if the remote GENCON adventure happens it can only be even better. :)

Just finished the patron run. It was awesome. Feedback was/is being taken to help improve further and work out the path forward.

I am going to say video, If I was coach and I have the group in the coaching portion, I would not want to go through email to find XYZ

On zoom a screen share of Amorgen's spreadsheet would work well. I haven't played around with screen share on iPad, but I imagine that would work for Cranston's app.

Agree with Laz on email. That would work on a small scale - like the patron runs - but not for a GenCon scale of runs.

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I wonder if there might be some way to do token verification prior to the coaching room, for those that have them ready? That would free up valuable coaching time to teach how the online system will work.

Teaching the online system sounds like a task for the Trainer.

Groups tend to come in three flavors.

The ones that have everything in the spreadsheet or app. Easy peasy.

Total newbies playing out of their 10 pack. A bit hard, mostly because they have lots of questions.

Ones with some to many tokens and no organization. Highest degree of difficulty. Especially if you throw in a dash of late arrival and arguments over character selection.

I'm sure a lot was learned from the Patron runs. But I'm guessing most of these folk fall into the first, highly organized category. I'd be interested in seeing how things flow with a total newbie group.

I was an observer on the Patron, not the player, but we did zoom on the ipad and cast it to our living room TV with apple TV (and had 2 phones and a laptop on the ready). I use zoom constantly for work, so I was there for tech support :). It was an early run (2nd?) so I know there were still some bugs to work out, but overall I was pleasantly surprised. I often find helping newer players get geared and set up, as well as the friends we've drug along, to be an intense situation as it stands with the time constraints, so I bet a lot of solutions can be worked on between then and now for the less organized groups. Overall, I thought it was a great experience...we had a lot of laughs!

Part the challenge with the typical newbie group is while you are working with one player one or more others are trying to ask questions. For the most part, they are truly trying to be helpful by having their tokens laid out and ready. In person, that is distracting but manageable.

My experience with zoom is that it’s much harder to deal with multiple people trying to take at the same time.

Since there are no physical items to restock (I presume) on a virtual run, perhaps the Coach assistants could monitor chat and respond to questions from other players.

A lot depends on how much TD wants to scale things up. Single dungeon or multiples? How many runs total? How many newbie groups do we get? (Perhaps moreif we run hints through GenCon event registration, less if run through TD Events?)
