TOPIC: First Impressions.

First Impressions. 5 years 8 months ago #1

I had my first True Dungeon experience at GenCon this year. I started with the Viper Pit since i had 0 tokens. I had a decent draw in tokens and played a dwarf fighter. It was a blast. The puzzles were difficult and we only managed to solve 1. There wer 5 experienced players and 5 of us noobs. I survived and had a great time. The next day i ran N1 I think. I was in a group with a guy named Christian who his friend John and him supplied tokens for a total of 6 players. There were 4 noobs and the other 6 who seemed to be very, very well geared. We ran normal, but could have easily done it on a harder difficulty level. We solved all the puzzles and combat was a breeze. I again played the dwarf fighter. Both games were very fun and I am now signed up to do N2 and N3 at GameholeCon. I invested I a few tokens to build a dwarf fighter. Nothing ultra rare since the prices are astronomical. All in All it was a fun experience and I look forward to more True dungeon. Thanks

Welcome to the game, Ryan.

I'm glad you had a blast. N1 was my favorite experience at Gen Con. Loved the added storyscape and the spaces between the rooms.

Welcome to the forums and the greatest game ever!

And by the way, even though I and many others are avid token collectors, True Dungeon isn't about tokens. You just need your 10 pack to play, and really having just a weapon is usually enough.

True Dungeon, in my opinion, is about having fun and teamwork. My fondest memories are of groups working together and just using our 10 pack of tokens!

Welcome! One nice thing about playing dwarf fighter is that your build will transition pretty easily to fighter or even barbarian if you find yourself playing with a group where the dwarf fighter is already taken. Having options is nice.

I would suggest a Defender Set, great ac and benefits for the price it costs and will be one of the $12 bucks you could spend.

You can find some for sale either

www.tdtavern.com/?target=search&mode=search&substring=defender&including=all

www.trenttokens.com/search?q=defender

If you go to trent tokens click the link from my signature and get a free $10 coupon. Either way welcome to the addiction.

Yes - if you haven't picked up your defender set yet, it's one of the most cost efficient ways to really upgrade your Fighter. There's no mention of this on the tokens, but when you have all 3 equipped you'll get a bonus known as Free Movement.

Free Movement is huge in ensuring that you don't get slowed down or bogged by obstacles. It'll help to keep you sliding every turn rather than getting skipped in combat.

Thirding (or whatever) the Defender Set (helm, platemail, and shield) recommendation. In my guild, the Cleric, Dwarf Fighter, and Paladin are all wearing the Defender Set. For a Rare set that costs about $12, it provides a lot of AC and, as mentioned above, Free Movement. It's a great value.

You may already know this, but the best place to get information about tokens is the Token Database, which you will find at tokendb.com .

So, welcome!

Here's hoping we get to do a run together at GHC!

Hey I think I was on the run with you. I was the barbarian. Glad you had fun and continued with the dwarf fighter.

I'll sell defender sets for less than 10. Plan to update my lists tomorrow.

Thanks all for the welcome. I actually picked up the defender set at GenCon and it sounds like I paid to much for it. Lol oh well. I appriciate all the advise and look forward to more. Right now i am playing N2 on Friday at 2 and N3 on Friday at 4:25. Not sure if I could cram a 12 o'clock in or not with a game at 2. I am watching for an earcuff of vitality, but think for a noob I will have a character that is not awful and didn't break me. Lol
