Now if you started combining some of this ideas. Like only using 2016 tokens (it is a 2016 dungeon) and highlander......now you have something interesting and challenging I would think.


Do it with set bonuses only. One copy of a token can be worn by one of the 10 members of the party, and everything has to be part of a set. :evil:

That is awesome. Pretty quickly the legendary/relic/UR options will be taken in each slot and a lot of people are going to be left with sub-optimal tokens / rares. The planning would be much more of a challenge than actually playing it on Nightmare though!

This is even better:

"There Can Be Only One!" Greedy Highlander variant:

Each player equips their character independently, without any communication or coordination with any other players.

An entire party can only equip one copy of a given token.

If more than one character chose the same token, they must "duel it out" through some mechanism. The winner gets to use that token in the slot. The loser not only is prohibited from using that token but that slot is still taken (i.e. they can't choose a replacement token). In the case of a weapon, the party card is entered with no weapon, but they can swap to a different weapon during combat.

That makes for some interesting game theory scenarios.... :evil: :evil: :evil:

Interesting why not just make it so neither player gets said token or slot. It would make for more interesting builds as folks attempt to quip things they don't think anyone else will equip. Though how you truly keep them from coordinating anything might be difficult.

The only thing I think it hurts is the spirit of team work. I think the big key is having at least a high enough to hit to actually hit the monster. So although I would say no duplicates from say X year would be interesting it could not be doable.

I still would like a party challenge where it ups the required skill to complete the dungeon successfully. That is where I was going with NC-17 (only melee slides with 17 or better count) and trying to find a way to increase the skill required for the casters.

I will let some of the popular spell casters chime in but some of the ideas Jedi and I discussed were (note all these would be managed by the party not DM):
  • Spell casters are asked a TD related spell question at the start of the room - if they get it right their spells do 100% if not they only do 50% (e.g. how many of the Wizard planes begin with A?)
  • Limited Token Ban - e.g. healers are not allowed to equip Lenses of Divine Sight
  • All spells require a slide of at least AC 15 or they are only 50% effective (includes healers)

I am halting my Origins run organization until we know how ticket sales will work at Origins. If we can only buy 1 ticket per badge (I hope not) then run organization will be very hard to coordinate as anyone can buy a ticket to any run. If we don't hear back from Jeff and Co today, we will find out tomorrow I guess.

Based on the current ruling on Ghost for Origins I will not be hosting anything themed runs.


If in the next 2 hours I can find 8 other people (Fiddy is with me I think) that want to do a themed run and we can coordinate a time, I will consider it. If anyone else does want to host a theme, I may be interested in joining. I just am not going to buy 10 tickets for any runs at Origins without 10 people commited. The risk is just to great to end up with extra tickets for a themed run and need to return them at a loss.


I will be up for doing themed runs at Gen Con because I know we can get 10 people. I am not certain about Origins. I imagine Thursday will be very sparse at to number of TD attendees (I will not be there).

What about a "Linked Life" run ??

Damage assigned to one player happens to all players. If more than one player would take damage at the same time, the highest damage assigned would be used.
