TOPIC: Age Minimum?

Age Minimum? 6 years 11 months ago #13

And here I thought that cleaning up after yourself was something we all learned in kindergarten.

I know that isn't true of course given all the plastic that sits around after people open their 10 packs, but still.

Some people are really into the "immersion" aspect of TD and might get upset when their experience is interrupted by a crying baby in a completely different group.

Would you also say that groups that yell or scream in a dungeon ahead or behind also could impact that immersion aspect and should be asked not to do so? Just curious I have no puppies in this fight.

Yes, those are issues too.

If a person is being sufficiently disruptive.

It is bad if they are disrupting other members of their group.
It is bad if they are disrupting the DM's and other volunteers.
It is especially bad if they are disrupting other groups.

Uh, if you want another example, apparently a few years back, there was some sort of puzzle involving spelling words with letters. Apparently, you could arrange the letters in a way to graphically depict some physical anatomy. Apparently, this could even be projected on to the ceiling of the entire hall (so that other people could see it), possibly boosted by a phone app that emits light.

I would say that this would be inappropriate and disruptive as well.

Fair enough, as I said I was just curious.

You can ask an adult human to be quiet/behave. Not an option with a toddler or baby.

You can ASK.

The results are extremely variable.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I don't know if you mean with an adult or a toddler but I have found both to be true.

True, but if you ask an adult, and they do not comply, it is much easier to deal with than the same situation involving a child. Unless you are flying United. (Too soon?)

I would say depends on the child and the adult, in general though I would rather deal with the 'worst' child than the 'worst' adult, but that is me.

I understand there are real costs associated with finding safe and reliable child care as well as not wanting to alienate people but there are real dangers just going through the dungeons even without a baby/toddler. There are also many sounds and effects that would be frightening to young children.
As a coach I have seen several young participants. I wonder if non related participants moderated or even thought of moderating their language and behavior on that run.
I don't know if there is a rule about carrying babies through the dungeon but there should be either way. I also think the parents should think about the impact on their child.
In previous comments there were suggestions the parents leave with their babies if they were being disruptive. I have been through several scary movies in which children started crying and parents did not leave simply attempting to quiet them and just simply went through the movie.
