I imagine that it will be mostly us hardcore TD players at Carbondale where at WYC you have spill over from those that are doing WYC as well. I will likely go to Carbondale but it will limit the number of tickets I will be purchasing because I won't have my local friends to fill in runs. So I guess that is good for me that I will be spending less money. :)

Looking at it more in detail I am surprised that it will be happening on a Friday and a Saturday and not a Saturday and Sunday. If ticket sales of WYC and GHC show us anything then Friday is very less likely to be attended and Saturday will be very full. Some more things for me to consider.

Are we estimating 500 tickets based on the single Dungeon? I wonder if that will impact attendance. True Realm had several Dungeon events, which I think helped people think they would get a good bang for their buck (and it was still a lower attendance than hoped for). If this is just one single Dungeon, that might make people think twice about spending the time/money on the trip. Hopefully there is other fun stuff to entice people to attend.

I'm also very surprised at a Friday/Saturday schedule, I'd think a lot more people would come for a Saturday/Sunday schedule. That would let them travel Friday night, game Saturday and Sunday, and head back home Sunday evening.

My buddies are tired of hearing me recount tales of how awesome True Realm was. I'm hoping this new event will give them the chance to partake of the greatness!

A few yes but it is always best to have a bit more demand than supply. If we look at registered sales for GHC:

Total 815 out of 1290 63%

Only 815 were pre-sold and we had more supply than demand.

I actually think the opposite is going to happen. There will be too many tickets. I would imagine that only those that are here on the forums are likely to go to this event. Maybe there is a bit of a local TD player group in Carbondale but I doubt it is that big. The only draw for the event will be TD. So you won't get any bleed over from local gamers going to an Convention that might play TD. Carbondale is WAY smaller than Madison or Indy so even the local gamers will not have a big of pool of other people to tag along to play that would normally not play. In Indy I bring co-workers and friends to TD. In Madison I took local friends to play. I bought 4 full runs at GC, and 2 full at GHC and 2 full at WYC. I am likely buy 2 tickets at most for Carbondale. Granted that is just me but I figure it scales for everyone. We will have a smaller turnout for this event. 500 tickets will be plenty. Now they might not be the best days for folks Friday is likely to be undermanned and Saturday may sell out. We shall see though. I am not complaining just attempting to put this in prospective.

Since WYC is a month before this, I wonder if True Dungeon can still have a presence there transmuting tokens, even if there won't be any Dungeons. I'm guessing not, since if they don't, the ability to transmute tokens might draw more people to the Carbondale event (assuming token transmuting is allowed there). It would be great if they did, though, since I'd certainly do the drive for that.

One reason they might want to have a presence at WYC is that they can hand out flyers and do advertising for the Carbondale event (if that is allowed).

First, thanks Ed for pointing this out.

2nd, this stinks for me and my group for several reasons.

1. The location is far less convenient for my friend driving from Michigan.

2. The change in weekend means I cannot attend due to a previous commitment (Wedding to attend).

While it sounds fun, and I would probably fly if I could, it can't happen.

I was actually looking forward to WYC. I had booked a hotel room at the "quiet" hotel recommended here, and was excited to get back to a "smaller" con in the midwest.

I can only assume that TD lost money at WYC, or didn't make enough to justify going back.

It's a bummer for sure.

I do hope this works for the longterm health of TD.

I believe the post made by Jeff mentioned 500 tickets for the event.

More information will be coming later this week.

Who'sYerCon is a great Con run by a good group of people but it was not a good fit for us. It pained me to run an event in half our normal allocated space. This is doubly so once you see some of the ginormous rooms we had at Gamehole Con. If WYC ever moves to a bigger location we may ask to attend again, and we wish them all the best.

Thanks for your patience with the limited information.

Jeff, that makes perfect sense, it's a lot of work and expense to set up in a space that isn't optimal.

Is there any chance you might show up at WYC at some point in the future to do token transmuting, even though you're not setting up Dungeons? Or perhaps someplace else in Indy?

Per the updated post it will be held in Carterville, IL at Walker's Bluff. I might recommend looking at Marion for hotels as well as Carterville is between Marion and Carbondale.

I'd really recommend staying at the two hotels listed in the Upcoming Events page. They are much closer than Marion, very nice hotels and they will have a shuttle. Plus...they are very close to TD HQ. We don't make a cent off anyone staying at these hotels...I'm just giving up a recommendation. Thanks.

Well I don't doubt for a second that Jeff will put on a great event in Carbondale!

I will just really need more details to know for sure if I will attend.

In all honesty, I understand WYCs limitations but still sad to see TD leave WYC. We've really enjoyed getting an extra chance to play TD and True Grind at WYC over the last few years, and it's an easy trip to Indy for me. Last year I was able to fly my son from college to Indy pretty cheap to join, and was already planning a bigger group to attend TD at WYC this year.
