TOPIC: Question on Fixed Price Auction - Rare and UC bags

Question on Fixed Price Auction - Rare and UC bags 3 years 6 months ago #1

I am about to post my fixed price 2021 auction tomorrow. I am thinking of doing 8K of it condensed rather than super condensed.

What is a reasonable price for groups of rares and uncommons? I am thinking of bags of 20 or 40 rare or uncommons (ideally however they are sent to us but I can't remember how many were in a given bag - I just remember being buried with what seemed like a zillion tokens)(multiple orders and I didn't do supercondensed on most.)

It's generally bags of 120 rares, or 240 uncommons I believe.

Excellent - so bags of 120 rares and 240 uncommons, there would be 8 sets of these because it is an $8K order.

Anyone recall what those were going for in auctions in the past?

When you order regular condensed 8ks - do the random UR's and potential Golden Tickets come randomly inserted into the rare bags, or are they separated out like they are in super-condensed?

I seem to recall years ago when people were doing "normal" 8k splits, that the GT was in the rare bag, if you got one.

How do auctioners handle this? Do they check the bags for GT/UR?

I did some math on the value you would have to make up in order to do bags vs. supercondensed (for 2020), and came up with about $75 for uncommon bags, $125 for rare bags. They probably actually go for a bit less than that, though.

Rare bags may be more valuable this year with the class necklaces, if people want enough of them.

Class necklaces will be great for token stores. For the average person bidding on the forums, my guess is most of those necklaces will just be PS fodder and drive the bag value down.

More people seem interested in buying the trade goods rather than the bags. I tried to get a bag of each (120 rares and 240 uncommon) earlier in the year but the order stalled out and could never fund.

I think that’s why the suggestion to be able to split between super condensed and condensed came up earlier - which I would love as I’m more interested in getting the rares and uncommon to outfit my party than more trade bits. But very few people want to buy the bags of uncommons

Good luck if you decide to give it a go

Usually all URs and GTs are removed by the auctioneer, that’s his payment for running the auction and why he is willing to take less than 8k

Unless I missed some, I think only one auction successfully funded during the 2020 year that was condensed as opposed to super condensed, with UC bags going for about $68 and rare bags around $99. That being said, I've also run an auction myself where UC bags went for $42-$43 and rares for up around $105.

I guess what I'm mostly getting at is to agree with Mike Steele's statement about UC bags reasonably being in the 50-70 range and add on the estimate that Rare bags should likely be in the 100-120 range. Might be able to push things into the lower end of those ranges if taking other preorder goodies into account.

I may just skip the rare and uc bags. The reality is it is a lot of extra weight and (literally) a pain in the back to handle.

This next year's rares are really, really good though. I'll decide sometime today before I post the auction.

I'm fortunate that I don't need to fund this to do the auction, I can cover the costs. This is mainly to recoup some of those costs with the tokens I won't need. I have a small store mainly to sell extras I happen across, I'm not looking to make that a full-time gig :).

Sounds like we need a "mostly condensed" option to keep the rare bags and not the UCs this year

The UCs aren't horrible but most of the consumables aren't hugely useful for NM+ players (though, I am noodling a Goblin weapon build that could be interesting). The rares have a decent amount of consumables useful for higher difficulty players. It's not as strong as the 2020's with death's door potions, etc but still very good.

Perfect world would be to be able to buy a "consumables pack" of nothing but consumables.
