TOPIC: EBay Listing for XP Codes

EBay Listing for XP Codes 6 years 5 months ago #1

This morning I noticed a listing on EBay for a bunch of stuff from GHC. Most of which is fine, but it includes unused XP codes. I'd hate for it to become an acceptable practice to sell unused XP codes, as they should only be used by those who do the runs (in my opinion).

For some reason the EBay link isn't working when I paste it, but the auction title is:

True Dungeon Gamehole Con Lot Brawler's Horn & Baneful Belt Token + XP + Bags

they earned it. I would never sell it, but they earned it and can do it.
people by completion tokens that did not go on that run

I don't see those as equivalent, but I respect that you do.

It feels a little “stolen-valory” but I don’t know what can be done about it.

Probably nothing to be done. I'm not sure if its wrong, but it doesn't feel right. I've also heard of people using their codes to indicate they ran hardcore or nightmare when they really only ran normal. That's not right either, but what are you gonna do? I've questioned one person I heard say that and their response is that they were prepared to run hardcore, but someone in the group was new so they had to run normal. They didn't feel they should be penalized.

I guess the whole XP thing is more or less an honor system and its probably a good thing we have the 4000 cap per year or I suspect you'd see people trying to cheat the system to get to higher levels faster.

Well, we could always go back to running an XP desk.

No, please never do that again.

I don't want to do anything to slow down check out but I do wish we could have different codes for different difficulties though.

While I agree with the sentiment, only if it didn't slow down check out. I can live with the few abusers to keep checkout flowing smoothly. Let's never go back to those long lines again.

I certainly don't miss the days of an epilogue room with 3-4 groups, per dungeon, backed up. I would like to see xp cards that are assigned a difficulty value, though. Yeah, people can still lie about how many rooms they finished and they could run out of one difficulty before the season ends, but it may help a bit. Won't stop people from selling them, though.

If people want to abuse the system they are going to. No need to make it harder on those that don't. Different codes are likely to cause more problems (wrong codes) for those that do it legit than preventing those that may abuse the system. If someone already wanted to abuse it they can play at nightmare and just reset their HP after every room to 100 if they wanted.

I think one of the codes I got at GHC was the wrong dungeon (code contained "Dan" when it was a Moongate run), and there were only 2 dungeons there. Different codes per difficulty sounds like a huge potential for mixups. Or running out of a particular kind. So I don't think that's a great idea.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)
