I really hope next year's volunteer tokens are NOT INT Stones, since those really only help Wizards and none of the other classes....

I can't imagine they would be. I think future vol tokens will move to another slot or be slotless - I don't think we will see any other stat boosters.

If we don't see +1 /+2 Spell damage one year and +1 /+2 Healing another year that's yet another token set focusing on weapon classes and ignoring casters.

I thought that Wizards disproportionately benefited from this year's volunteer token.

Wizards tend to have the lowest HP and low Fortitude, so anything that boosts it, helps them catch up.

Plus, with Mad Evoker's around, HP is especially valued by Wizards.

5HP is 5HP so I can't say that Wizards DISPROPORTIONATELY benefit from them.

Ultimately we have a set of tokens boosting melee damage, a set boosting ranged damage. We should have a set boosting spell damage.

DEX doesn't increase range damage. To hit not damage.

DEX doesn't increase range damage. To hit not damage.

And it equally boosts + hit for sliding spells.

So the DEX stones are extremely useful for Wizards.

Are somewhat useful for wizards if you focus on slide spells. Nowhere near as good as it is for ranged weapon users due to lack of non scroll sliding spells

Does every thread have to devolve into a discussion about how bad off the wizards have it.

People chose wizards to be the weak one in the back that knows the right answer and directs the barbarian to do it or probe the enemy for weakness and exploit it.

Its not for everyone.

Everyone benefits from HP. even that fighter with 40 HP could use more to free up the cleric healing for the squishys

It doesn't _have_ to, but it almost certainly will. Three guesses why and the first two don't count.

Only thing though is that of all the damage/healing boosting items currently the UR is 1, Relic 3 and Legendary 5 that are not consumable.. Maybe something like +x DC save for Rare, and +1 healing/damage +x DC save for UR?

Not so! Greater Mistletoe - slotless uncommon +1 spell damage, Druid's Sacred Vestments, +2 healing shirt of skill test is passed.

Regardless of the printed rarity of volunteer tokens practically they are at the ultra rare level of scarcity. +1/+2 spell damage / healing is fine.

That is a good point. My melee build currently has all four Onyx and Quicksilver stones in it, but at most may end up with one of the new ones. But my guess is every spellcaster would want one or both of the CON stones.

I do not see an equivalence between the STR boosting ioun stones for melee classes and CON boosting ioun stones for spellcasters. At best there is a weak parallel. The clear equivalence would be to make a spell damage and healing boosting ioun stone.

Let's put this another way:

Who who plays a spellcaster would equip Garnet Cube ahead of +2 Spell damage or healing? My guess is no one.

Who who plays a melee class would equip any volunteer ioun stone ahead of Onyx Cube? My guess is no one.

Oooh, Oooh, I know too!!

It's because we want to keep bumping Seth Murray's trade thread, so he can find a taker for his Ioun Stone: Garnet Cube... right???

oh wait.... is this one for the "first two" answers which don't count?

I'm not unhappy with the vol ioun stones so far. DEX and CON bumps are great for all classes, including us wizards. The STR bump was not helpful, but I sold those stones and got some great wizardly stuff instead.

I certainly wouldn't say no to +1/+2 dam/heal stones, though. The problem is that even a wizard could use a STR bump, but only 5 classes could use a spell bumping stone.
