An interesting idea. Would Origins allow an event to run before it's official start?

Origins is officially a 5-day convention -- Wednesday to Sunday. I'm not saying there is as much to do on Wednesday, but there is definitely gaming going on Wednesday.

Maybe a Silver ticket run Wednesday pm then?

Gamehole Con can't replace GenCon for me yet. It's hard to both volunteer and run at GHC. At least as a full time volunteer. As well, it's not clear that Gamehole Con will ever have the full range of dungeons as GenCon does. This year the goal was to have all three of the current year dungeons. We were told there were not enough volunteers to make that possible. Also there is no Grindvat GHC this year.

But I'll be there as a full time volunteer again. And with a bit of luck and some gracious help from another volunteer I am fitting in two runs.

I'm in similar spot, I love the smaller cons for playing but if you volunteer it's rough. I did local install at Origins this year with another forumite and the big reason was so we could play more. If/when Origins grows enough for a 'standard' 2 shift day i'll won't mind going back to coach/DM.

I'm in a wait and see approach for next year to see what con(s) I don't goto.

I saw shortage of volunteers and working logistics so my con mate and I can head out a day early if possible to help with build.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

If you win a "silver ticket" for a premier run at Origins, but can't attend, how would that be any different than someone finding a golden ticket who can't attend GenCon?

I'm honestly at the point where I might consider just skipping GenCon altogether, and attending other Cons in different places. I can still get my TD fix and not have to fight a ridiculous crowd, organize to get a bunch of people to ready for the hotel lottery, or to hit submit the second tickets go on sale, etc.

I definitely feel the same way... GenCon is just too crowded, busy, mayhem (not TD, they do a good job).

I dislike lines and crowds. My younger brother got me going and he has decided to bail out on GenCon due to rising costs.

I might start just doing “every con except GenConl myself... unless I get a GT...

I keep having schedule conflicts with Gencon and it is fustrating, I am committed to volunteering at origins or gencon each yeah and if I can swing it local install crew at GHC. Even though origins is another 2 hours of driving on top of indy it is much more sane from a logistics standpoint.

I hate to be that guy but can you guys please take your conversation about conventions to a different thread? I know we get off track all the time but really trying to focus on the transmute recipes and feedback for them.

Does that get us back on track? :)

I wonder if we'll see less story arc beads because of the Fleece requirement in the kilt and Relics?

I know I can't make beads for my group of 4 anymore because I need to re purpose the bits.

It's been an expensive re-build process to add the Relic necklace to my poly build. I'm super glad that the fleece requirement was dropped back to 1.

I think we will see more beads than icecrags to be sure.

I kind of feel like we're at a chicken little moment here.

It may take some work, but I dont think the sky is falling.

I think it may take some doing, but trading with newer players seems like a great place to start.

I'm having to cut back on our bead transmutes also.

Maybe have a middle ground, require any five monster tokens with a Kilt instead of a full fleece?

I do worry a bit that people might do something like offering a Rare for a monster bit to new players, when it's worth much more now.

I took a quick look at the resources I have and what I am going to need and decided that I will worry about AFTER the 2019 bits come out and see what the numbers are like.

If the overall percentage of MB stay the same as what we were seeing at Gen Con (22-23%) divided overall 6 bits instead of 4.

Before the ISGN, max treasure (19) would yield you about 4 bit per run. So say you did max treasure at Gen Con and N1-N3. You would have on average just under 13 bit. 4 for your bead and 1 just short of a fleece.

At min treasure (3) it would get just over half a bit per run. So even doing N1-N3 and Pit would likely not get you 4.

If numbers stay at 22-23% overall.
Max treasure goes to 21. If there are different 3 dungeons that gets you just over 14 bits. That is 6 for your bead and 2 short of a fleece.

I am not advocating percentages go up or down. Just putting out there what the numbers would be.

That happened to me in the 2016 gen con. I traded 4 monster bits for my defenders set and a charm of enlightenment. Kicking myself now because I could use those bits for another bead.

Unfortunately I am sure this already happens. Most of the people on the forums are probably not the ones engaged in this behavior.

Our best defense is to educate new players about monster bits and GP, and watch other trades as they happen, giving opinions if it is egregious.

I dont care if someone who is trying to take advantage of someone else doesnt like me.

I hope that if we are increasing the number of bits, we increase the percentage of them, to keep each bit at approximately 5%, which is what I think we are at now.
