TOPIC: GenCon Housing - Anyone in yet?

Had a 2.5 hour wait. Everything downtown is gone. Had a friend log into they portal a couple minutes after it opened and got in instantly. He managed to snag a double at the embassy so we're going to stay with him instead.

I travel down to Indy with a group of 20+ people and we needed 8 rooms. In the end, exactly 8 of us managed to get rooms downtown, although in a couple of cases we only got singles where we wanted doubles and we're in 3 different hotels. 17 of us were available to get online and our places ranged from 2 minutes to 3+ hours. Fortunately, my wait was only 5 minutes. I figure I've now used up my luck for the year, which means no random URs for me.

I live on the NW side of Insy, just off 65. If anyone ends up on this side of town, I can offer a ride or two to the ICC.

I booked a hotel out east when I learned of the new system. Glad I did because my 'random wait time' was 3 hours!

I was thinking about not going to Gen Con anymore and this just cemented that in my mind. True Dungeon and Gen Con have been nice but I'm not coming back. It's certainly not anything that True Dungeon has done, TD and the TD community have been fantastic. Just can't deal with the Butt-Forkery of Gen Con LLC any more.

I'll finish out the TD story line and that'll be that.

They might as well have just called it the GENCON Housing Suck -- cause that's what it did. Terrible system. If not for the magical time that is True Dungeon I wouldn't even bother with GENCON anymore. It's gotten way to big.

The thing that bothers me is no waitlist this year, feels lazy and crappy to me. Won't even but in some effort to try to make folks happy.

Since I had terrible luck this year with GenCon hotels does that mean I'll pull a Golden Ticket this year??

This was my easiest hotel reservation experience in years, but I know it was just because I got lucky with the wait time. Next year could be the opposite. It's a shame they got rid of the wait list.

Wow. It's a shame when someone who loves TD leaves the fold because of the conventions seemingly incompetence with it's housing bureau. I hope that doesn't result in TD loosing revenue, due to faithful consumers pulling out of the convention. I myself am frustrated and really need to think if the hassle is worth the effort. I'll see how it goes this year staying out at the airport, but maybe TD at Origins would make for a better fit?

I got stuck way out in nowhere by the airport. Can't imagine how I can volunteer this year with a useless unreliable shuttle service.

I do not get the purpose of them doing away with the wait list.
