TOPIC: True Grind and Golden Ticket questions

True Grind and Golden Ticket questions 9 years 6 months ago #1

I have heard of True Grind and Golden Tickets but cannot find out much about them on the web site. Where are they detailed and what are they specifically?

HI Jeff

Grind tickets are a very limited event that occur in True dungeon. you can get the tickets from the gencon website when ticket purchases open for events, but they sell out very quickly. I was unable to get one myself and I was online at the moment of release.

True grind is a combat lovers dream, ever increasing monsters with no single room time limit but it is very hard, worse than you are currently thinking hard. The last time I played there was one survivor out of 10. It is also incredibly fun.

Golden Tickets are an even more rare event. In the pre-order packets 40 random golden ticket Tokens are placed. This is very much a random event, it's been estimated to get one for sure you may need to spend up to 10 thousand dollars in tokens, however everyone has a random chance. Many players have had them form orders as low as 250 dollars.

thats a link to the golden ticket token in the database, please note they look a bit different form that image now days.

Golden Ticket on the TDb

truedungeon.com > How To Play > The Golden Ticket

truedungeon.com > How To Play scroll down to or search for "True Grind"

Search the forums for "true grind"
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

. In the good old days we had "real" golden tickets.
.
. Not any of those token thingies.

That is a golden ticket, it is about 10x7.5 inches.

(Raven or anyone else with a good memory, is this an 07 golden ticket?)
NOW this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

True Grind: "Race to the Oasis" In this hackfest, players must race across a deadly desert at night to reach an oasis before the sun rises. No XP is earned, but 1 Treasure Chip and a Survivor Button is available. Hardcore or Nightmare settings are available if whole party agrees. Arrive 15 minutes early to fill out Party Card. You MUST be a Second Level TD player to participate -- and expect to die without a lot of experience, skill and tokens. This is not an event for casual TD players

.
Is this a "fifth" area to traverse with rooms and the normal combat slide tables and stuff? Just no puzzles. When you die are there additional consequences besides following along as a ghost?

It is usually just 1 room with multiple combat boards. Though last year there were two 'rooms.' When you die you cannot help with the combat (unless you are brought back to life). The combat is also generally more difficult than standard combat.

True Grind also rewards creative token use. For example, things like Sandstorm cloak, waterskin, scroll endure elements, cold weather gear, and others were of great use in this year's version of True Grind.

I forgot my Scroll Neutralize Stomach Acid and that was my undoing this year! Didn't even have a bottle of Tums handy.

In the spirit of D&D, just as the word "level" means too many things, the word "room" is overloaded in Grind. :)

It takes place in a single physical room, but the combat is broken up into virtual "rooms" after so many monsters die. This affects tokens and spells that last for "one room" only, but you don't relocate. But, your scrolls and potions wear off after each room, the paladin restates whom to guard, and your barbarian rage may fade away just before the boss appears if you use it to early. But Eric always announces room changes, and when you're in the last one. But odds are you'll know anyway...

The 2006 Golden Tickets were also in certificate form, but they were numbered, and they didn't have the "small print" at the bottom.

I'm pretty sure the small print came on the 2007 GT certificates, in which case the image in your profile pic would, indeed, be a 2007 GT, George!

You could consider it a fifth area to traverse. (Or a third area if you lump the combat and puzzle versions of each run together since the story is the same.)

I was lucky enough to get tickets for True Grind in 2013 and 2014. Both times I thought it did an excellent job of linking together the stories from the main dungeons. In 2013 we needed to survive the night in a cabin in the woods after traveling though the werewolf-infested forest before we headed up Cogwind's tower. In 2014 True Grind filled in the gaps between landing Cogwind's airship and finding the entrance to the Snake Cult Temple.

Playing True Grind doesn't grant any XP and it only takes about an hour instead of 2.5 like a full dungeon. It also gives you a unique participation token and a single treasure token. (Treasure enhancing tokens are not used in True Grind.)

So grab a True Grind ticket for 2015 if you can!

Me too, hopefully we can get more slots opened up for True Grind because I'm worried I won't be able to get one, and there seems to be quite a few new players who want to play again.
