TOPIC: Costuming into the dungeon

Re: Costuming into the dungeon 9 years 7 months ago #25

I cannot cite a specific reference, but I do not believe we are supposed to be bringing extra light sources into the dungeon. While I saw people using their phones, unchecked this would become an issue. How bright a source can I bring in, how many can my group bring into the dungeon?

Nobody said anything about my flashlights during my three runs. One GM even showed me his that was similar while waiting in one room.

Players are not supposed to bring in their own light sources. I imagine many people were tempted to use their phones or other sources b/c those little yellow lights were not very helpful.

When I was working, I used a small LED flashlight.

I can.

DMG p49
Light Sources
The only light sources permitted in the dungeon are the ones provided by TD. Players may not use personal devices for illumination.

Coach's Guide p8
Lights: Non-TD issued light sources (including phones) are prohibited.
Silence & stow phones: All electronic devices must be silenced and put away.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I suppose I will have to request dispensation because with my failing eyesight and particularly my progressive contact lenses, I need a stronger light source than the one provided in order to read anything while in the dungeons. With the weak light provided, I will simply be unable to participate.

Team Hat likes to run in costume...and by costume I mean we wear a hat close to our character lol. We only did a couple of hat runs. But I brought the Mandolin on most runs, it didn't get in the way too bad, especially since I usually don't slide.

This is something that needs to make its way to Jeff in a separate thread. As the demographic expands and broadens, the provided light sources need to take into account some people's individual limitations.

That said - I took my +2 staff of power (my "real" one - see my icon photo) into the dungeon once... and even though the crystal on top lights up quite brightly - never actually turned it on (maybe once at the end of a room) - and the DM reminded me (politely) about the rule.

Thoughts about the needs of various players? (The yellow lights were pretty bad - I thought)

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

The following is NOT a revision of official policy.

As a coordinator, if a person came up to me and said due to vision issues a personal light source was necessary and that person showed me the intended light source, as long as I felt it would not be disruptive to the game, I would have no problem with it.

We are reasonable people and can make reasonable accommodations.

Good to hear it - I feel exactly the same. I want people to be able to enjoy the Dungeon and have fun!
