TOPIC: True Grind Announcements for Who's Yer Con!

True Grind Announcements for Who's Yer Con! 10 years 1 month ago #1

Few quick things:

#1. The sub-classes for the Rod of Seven Parts will not be ready in time for Who's Yer Con. Plus, I highly doubt someone will want to use their "once per year" effect at Who's Yer Con, rather than saving it for GenCon!

#2. As always, it is highly recommended that players prepare their character's equipment and their party cards to the best of their ability beforehand. There are several good utilities that can be used to prepare the party card.

For the Who's Yer Con Grinds, I specifically requested 30 minute intervals between Grind sessions (instead of the 15 minutes we get at GenCon) so that should certainly help. But already prepared party cards will definitely make things a lot easier!

#3. Here are the effects for the Amulet of Wonder, Eldritch Runestone, and UR Special for this weekend's True Grind at Who's Yer Con:

Amulet of Wonder: Once during the Grind, you may force a reroll of the d20. This could be used on your saving throw or the saving throw of another party member. On a monster's attack roll (using a d20) against you or another party member. Could be used on an initiative roll (either the party's or the monster's). Or any other time a d20 is rolled (used for randomness, if there is a % miss chance, etc.).

Eldritch Runestone: Once during the Grind, you may allow a re-slide of a combat slider. This could be used on your slide, or another party member's.

UR Special: You gain the Monsterbane ability for the duration of the Grind. If any weapon you slide results in a natural 20 (doesn't work with 18's or 19's even if Keen) and the highest damage number (includes ties if the weapon has multiple highest numbers) is facing the damage dot, then the monster is instantly defeated (this bypasses normal immunities to death).

Please let me know if you have any questions about this weekend's Grind. Otherwise happy slayin'! B)

Hey! Thanks for the added info. I know there's the Character Creator and Party Management system here on the site, but those haven't been updated for 2014 tokens yet. Can you provide links to the other utilities? Thanks!

There is a thread for Amorgen's Character Designer (Excel Spreadsheet) . It's an excellent utility that can be downloaded here . It requires Excel 2000 or above, OpenOffice, or NeoOffice.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

... hence my problem with it. I use OpenOffice.

I thought Amorgen had fixed it so it works in OpenOffice now.....not certain about that you would need to check the thread about it, but I thought that was one of the changes with it.

EDIT:

Version 2014.1 Notes

All new version built to support OpenOffice as well as Excel.

Will the player need to turn in the Eldritch Runestone before the adventure in order to have the option to re-slide once or can the player choose to hold onto the ER until such a time as a re-slide is desired and turn it in at that time?

If the former, will the player have wasted the ER if s/he never opts to re-slide?

I want to make sure I grok this mechanic. If I'm wielding a Greater Scimitar , both of the 10s will trigger this effect, not just the 10 between the 1 and the (other) 10, right?

Will this have an anti-jackass provision? It would really suck if a player could force another player to re-roll a successful saving throw.

if EN 429 was on my run, I would so do that. Last year on a regular nightmare run, the party made it a point to knock his puck off the board(he did like 6 damage as a cleric and thought he was big time)

As with other Runestones, the Eldritch Runestone needs to be turned in at the beginning of the adventure (when preparing the party card).

It is possible that the effect is never used (is wasted). Similarly, in prior years, Eldritch Runestones have been turned in and the effect never used (never applicable or the player just forgot about it - like the case when you could get restored to full HP or brought back to life).

I want to make sure I grok this mechanic. If I'm wielding a Greater Scimitar , both of the 10s will trigger this effect, not just the 10 between the 1 and the (other) 10, right?

Correct. With that Greater Scimitar, if either of the 10's is facing the damage dot (and you slid a natural 20) the monster would die.

If you want, you can try using a few d6 weapons (which have two 6's on the damage wheel). This would yield a 33% chance of killing the monster if you successfully hit with a 20. (Though if you don't consistently hit 20's, you are doing less damage with the inferior weapon).

If you really want to waste your once-per-dungeon effect this way, go ahead.

It is more likely that social norms and peer pressure will discourage such behavior.

Similarly, if you really wanted to hose your party you could be intentionally knocking their sliders with yours. (Best with Rangers, Monks, or a Wizard with the Dagger of Arcane Luck).
