TOPIC: PLINKO

PLINKO 9 years 7 months ago #1

So thanks everyone for all the positive response to PLINKO.
I had fun and I hope you all did too.

Sorry for the folks that wanted to play but couldn't find me or the folks that were lined up when I had to cut it off because it was running late.

Incase folks wanted to know, the box was drained of about 1300 token 2 of which were URs.

After this years token order I should have enough to restock the box again for another year but not sure beyond that, just depends on if there are transmutes I need :)

Maybe Pinko could be a Wednesday Trade Night event? We are all around for it anyway :)

Plinko is a game idea I borrowed and adapted for True Dungeon.
Basically you play gold and win draws from my token box. Every play wins. While gold is a useful tool for trading and required for transmutes relics and above, its not very useful for newer players.

As a coach I got asked "whats gold for?" a billion times and never had an answer I liked so I created an answer. My answer now is "play games and trade with other players or used in transmutes".

Several folks sit and passively trade tokens for gold or other tokens they want. Some new games have sprung up recently which is cool. I wanted to add atmosphere and fun.

In full disclosure plinko actually runs at a loss. Sure I end up with a pile of gold at the end of the day, but I could have much more if I traded the tokens for gold or even turned the tokens into Trade items and sold or traded those for gold.

I'll predict the next question is, "But why do it if it runs at a loss?"
Its fun. It helps new players. Its easier to dump tokens into a box and have them magically turn into gold even if its less gold. Its less of a loss than the booth I ran for several years :O LOL
I like getting to interact with the community and its a good opertunity.

Overall I'm pleased with the new board. I need to fix it in a few areas. I've got some improvements lined up for the board and the box. I had a whole new box but due to size it couldn't bring it with me this year.

Thanks to everyone that played or sat and chatted with me. I had fun.

What do you normally put in the box? Because I might be able to contribute next year.

Box is:
60% common
30% uncommon
10% rare
1 UR per 1000 tokens give or take, this year it was 1/800

I pull all gear tokens so its all "useful" to newer players because that was the "other" question as a coach I hate. "How do I use this in the dungeon?" I think the answer I give is a bit lame "Just be creative!" because more often then not they get disheartened when they try some super convoluted way to attempt to circomvent a puzzle and are told "no"

Folks love seeing the older tokens so I try and make sure there are plenty (no woodies sorry Mike). Also I try and stay away from corner case tokens if I can avoid it.

I'd love to have more common armor in the box but typically I turn most of this into needed Hides. Those always seem to be in high demand. I also end up tight on rare armors and weapons as I convert to aragonite.

What is neat, is unless you watch for a while or play a lot most people don't even notice the repeats. I usually managed to get in enough diversity that the same person isn't pulling dups of uncommons or rares.

*frowns*
those stats sound off.

are you sure it's not 90% common and 10% uncommon?*

that's been my experience.

;)

LOL
probability is certainly fickle.

Its always interesting to see how people draw. A very clever person would come along after you have drawn down the commons so they have a better chance at the rares :) But maybe if you played again you'd be that person!
