TOPIC: Showing up with your own Character Sheet

Showing up with your own Character Sheet 9 years 10 months ago #1

Last year one of the DMs told my son and I that we could keep our character sheets (the actual ones you wear through the run). It was the first time I've come home with that and I though it was kind of cool but sort of didn't feel "right" (like I was taking something I shouldn't be).

I was thinking of taking it with me this year to play a Rogue again but am kind of on the fence about whether or not that will or could potentially cause issues with whatever other players we wind up doing the run with.

We usually get to the session early so we can try to get first choice of characters and that has worked out just fine but even if we don't make it early this year, I kind of just want to kit out my Rogue with tokens I've earned and purchased and go with it. Is that wrong/bad..?

Keep in mind that a level 3 player gets to choose before anyone 2 or lower. I would also recommend doing your best to find a thread for your group in the forums and trying to plan ahead. I always prefer to play Rogue, but have been doing my best to build on another class that I can overlap tokens with.

I did actually do that (start two threads: one for each run) yesterday. It's still so early that I don't anticipate any response for awhile, if any.

You mentioned that a Level 3 player gets to choose before anyone 2 or lower--that shouldn't be a problem then as my character is Level 4. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip. That's another thing I must have overlooked in the past. Then again, a few pre-run ales and all I want to do is play. ;-}~

Are you level 4 or is your character card level 4? Very important distinction. Most people are pretty cool about character choices, so you are probably fine, but never hurts to have a back-up plan.

Fear not, the full-color character cards like the ones seen here were designed to be a kind of souvenir. Since many of them get marked, they are not reused.

Th old-style black & white laminated character cards were not to be taken, but we haven't used those in years.

Unless you want to keep it on you, hidden away as a good luck charm, don't bother. You will be supplied with a fresh card every time you play. Some of the cards may be revised this year, so it would behoove you to use the most current one available.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Both--my character and my card are 4th level. I had to dig out the card to verify.

Good point. I'll keep that in mind and take mine with just in case.

I still think there is a misunderstanding. You as a player have a level and earn experience for 1 of each adventure that you play each year. Your player level unlocks some metagame perqs which can be found here . The characters are currently all level 4 (or 5 if you have a Might Trio or a Heroism) and have been for some time now.

If the misunderstanding was on my part I apologize and hope that this info may be of use to someone else.

Dante, What Druegar is saying is that the cards are provided at the start of every run. They mass-print them. Bringing your own card for "use" actually has the potential to cause problems because there are rules changes that are printed on the new cards. The character cards are not in limited supply.

Dante, when you log into True Dungeon and are on the forums, look at the top of the screen. At the left of the True Dungeon Logo it should say what level Player you are. That is separate from what level your character is, which will be Level 4 unless you have the proper tokens to raise the character to Level 5. Also, if you go into "My Account", it will show what player level you are at, and how close you are to the next level.

...unless you played last year and haven't gotten around to entering your XP for 2013.

And yes, following in the grand tradition of D&D from which it sprang, TD has overloaded the word "level" to mean multiple things :-) the first year you played, you could have been a 1st level PLAYER playing a 4th level CHARACTER unable to cast anything higher than a 2nd level SPELL. At least our dungeons don't have levels, too, unless you count the Normal/Hardcore/Nightmare level SETTINGS... In which case, yeah, it kind of does.
