Honestly at this point were just getting ourselves wound up prematurely. I fully expect ticket day will be the usual cluster f we've come to expect and that this years large con population wont make it any easier but honestly theres no point in worrying yet. Our current position hasn't really changed that much from this time last year and I'm sure Jeff an co are working on optimizing the system as much is possible.

Personally I'm in for full-time vol too (as is the wife) and I'm less concerned with getting run times then I am with a repeat of last years no show volunteers happening. Odds are good as fourmites we will be able to find groups we can join up with to get our runs in but if the ticketing crunch impacts volunteer retention or someone abuses it because their desperate to get a hotel it could be a much larger logistical problem for the event.

We put a stat page in the back and if we have to play a character that we didn't plan on we can change books quickly - stats included since we don't change out the tokens. If that means we run with a less than optimum character so be it, the run is still fun.

Donald,

I would suggest getting the largest Dansco book and just putting the tokens that need to change in the back two pages. I have mine setup with six pages and when I looked at my character I really only need to change a few tokens to make a viable caster!

Yes, that setup eliminates Monk, Rogue and Bard but it covers all the rest just fine. If you have more than one person, which it sounds as if you do, A second book could have the back two pages setup for swap out for the a fore mentioned classes.

That would eliminate a lot of extra weight.

Our books are the widest available. We have 8 pages and one clear pocket page in each for the stats. We find we run out of room since we do put all the Gear in each (never know when you might need that rope). Mages/Clerics have different scrolls, heals. Non healers are equipped with various potions. We generally play at minimum 6 but usually 10 in our group so we need to split them out.

One run last year we had 9 tickets. We came to the room early but the other player was already there. We had 10 books on us. The unknown player had already picked a character that we had planned on playing. Without saying a word we were able to swap books (all stats already set). Sure saves on conflict and since there isn’t much time in the coach’s room, it saves on time, and it makes the runs a lot more fun being pre-pared.

That makes sense. With a larger group it is far easier to spread out the books. I was thinking two people carrying 12 books.

As to gear I use the small coin wallets. We have a Gear book for the whole party that atstepchild and I put together. It has at least one of every gear since chippies were brought out. Scrolls and potions get the smaller coin wallets. This makes it easy to carry a character with modifications in the 41mm Dansco page albums. Since I have some legendary tokens I don't trust carrying them in anything else.

My setup looks like this,

1-Dansco Album with 7 (missed one counting last time) pages, 9 tokens per page, for main character and variations. Stats pre-printed for all variations.

1 - six token per page booklet for gear. Tops of pockets taped
3 - 3 token per page soft vinyl wallets for potions/scrolls/emergency respectively.

Since the character book is just for tokens that are equipped I never even have to open it after I pull the weapons out for the run. Much safer that way. Anything that I need is easily accessible during a run inside of 10 seconds.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

My group has a token wallet setup with reds for each of the 12 classes, another for gear, healing goes into a crown royal bag our pali carries, then we just swap the URs around as needed. Some of our more frequently played classes are getting to the point where we may need to upgrade to the larger coin binders.

So my set up is two fold, my tackle boxes for moving all my stuff to and from GenCon. I have one for useful potions, healing, scrolls, and spare equipment and use one for trade tokens (which normally gets left at home). But once I'm in the dungeon I have a small one that has all the gear, and one use tokens I'll need. It's pretty easy to manage inside the dungeon.

Last year tickets didn't sell out for weeks. Yes there is population increase this year but we did actually have a surplus last year. I know first hand coaching that some runs went empty and we had many threads here tracking the slow sell out.

Its good to be proactive.

P.S. Got my tokens yesterday :)

I'm still debating if I even want to order tokens this year. I may just bum an extra Rod 7 piece off of someone.

The problem isn't in getting one or two tickets for a run (if your proactive and order them the first day). It is in getting a run of ten. We want these for two reasons. 1. To preset our characters and know what we are playing. 2. We run with 5-6 and have a set of friends that run with 4-5. So we need the whole set in order to do the runs together. Also, as a team we built the Gertz backpack, so in order to benifit from it the owner needs to be on the same runs as us.

I'm not saying not to be proactive, lord knows Ill be waiting there at opening second with my cart loaded just like everyone else. Just saying that there's no point in getting worked about things we cant change before we can do anything about them. Just prep as much as we can and roll with it on opening day (worrying between now and then wont change anything).
