I got my Gencon badge today, too.
I managed to score a VIG badge in fact (from what I understand, that's a moderately impressive feat).

Now to see if I can score an Embassy Suites hotel room on Tuesday.....

I didn't realize how much of a feat it was until I went to the GenCon forums to find answers to a couple questions, and saw 3 pages of posts from people who were disappointed that they couldn't get a VIG. Every second post was a story of "I clicked the VIG option but before I could select my name/before I could hit submit, it was already sold out."

Apparently it sold out in less than 10 seconds this year. (ie, less than the time it took for most people to get the page to actually load.) And the Waitlist was full roughly 2 minutes later o.O

Raven, congrats on the VIP Badge! I got my regular badge today, and I'll be trying for the Embassy Suites on Tue also!

I suggest a token bidding war


one thing that cuts down on new people getting VIG is that last years VIG get first shot at them, so each year less VIG tickets are released. So you can try again next year too.

VIG's are great people who get a little extra for a lot of money, thank you for being one, and since you also volunteer at TD it really means a lot and just shows how much you love the convention and the games

Less than 180 this year, I tried to get one at 11:02 (and some unknown number of seconds) and they were gone.

Xavon - listening to folks on the GenCon forums, it sounds like the time in which VIG sold out was roughly equivalent to the time it took to get the page to load. Makes sense I guess... with several hundred folks all loading the page at the same time, everything slows down, and the first ones to get their page to load can buy the VIGs. By the time everyone else's page loads, they're gone

I normally fly down to GenCon with my husband & a couple other Canadians. They've already got dibs on my Companion tix since I'll be (and I quote) "too busy doing that True Dungeon thing all Con to take advantage of the VIG lounge or early hall access." I'm lucky to have such caring friends, to enjoy the perks for me, eh?

Thanks Brad. I'm sure there's many fine gamers who would love to be part of the VIG program if more slots were available.

Raven, since you are in the VIG block, I doubt you'll have an issue getting into the Embassy Suites.
