In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Creative mode

Re: Creative mode 10 years 8 months ago #13

instantly??? So that mean walk into every puzzle room pull out all your tokens and instantly get a clue. Even if you don't know how it could be used. I don't think that is what you mean but if it is I don't like it at all. You have to at least figure out how a token could be used.

Sorry poor choice of words. As in "I read the script with my small silver mirror." DM this year said, "Nothing happens. Your mirror is useless." When I feel they should have said, "Here is what the script says..."

Okay. But with the example you gave if you are already thinking of reading the text in the mirror couldn't you just figure it out? Not saying you are wrong about current year's token use but if the mirror did make you think to read the text backwards or upside down didn't it do its job?

I did think to read it backwards but alas that is not one of my strong suits. Luckily others used the waterfall, I am just suggesting that either allow gear some in game effect for the year it is printed or don't print them.

But gear can be used. It is just not always allowed. Last year I heard a group got out mirrors to pass the telephone room where you couldn't talk. I understand what you are saying but just because you didn't find a use of gear didn't mean that Jeff didn't have a way that it could have been used.

Quick note on the mirror. It WAS useful, as you could look right at the Fearful Spirit in Room 6 Lycans.

My group tried to do that last year on that room and we were told no. :( Though, on our car-ride home last year we thought of another solution to that room that would have been a blast to try if the DM went with it:

1. One party member kills himself and becomes a ghost.
2. This party member can now run back and forth between the pillars and assist the party in where each piece goes without worrying about counting his steps or talking too loud since he is now a ghost.
3. All or at least the player at the final pillar can hear everything the ghost says due to the Shade Cloak.
4. After the room is solved the ghost is given a Potion Death's Door and fully restored.

Since it requires spending a Potion Death's Door I wouldn't want to try it unless we were reasonably sure it would work though. But I just loved the comedic value of being given a puzzle to solve and the first step is "I kill myself."

If I was DM I might have to give it to you on that one. Unless told by the PTB beforehand it was not allowed.

LOL
Love it, Adeya!

BTW, this was one of the ways we tried to solve the key-in-the-cage dilemma on a puzzle run years ago. Instead of trying to get the key out with a rope or twine, we killed a party member, sent the ghost into the cage (which living material could not pass through - a mechanic designed to keep people from reaching their arms in) and then dropped a Potion of Death's door into the dead player's mouth. The live player inside the cage was able to pass us the key, and then we repeated the process to get the player out.

Unfortunately, this method was ruled invalid later during the con :(

As a DM I'd let this one fly, too. Only if, though, Jeff allowed it.

MasterED wrote: As I mentioned in a previous post about gear my opinion is that if gear is print the same year as the run (i.e. 2013 there was Mortal & Pestle, Small Silver Mirror, Whetsone, and how could I forget the Duck) then you should be able to use it in the dungeon.

For example the small silver mirror should instantly give you the Dryad waterfall clue.

One of the parties that I was with did use the mirror on the waterfall and were told what it said. I don't know why they didn't for you.
