In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Another Excellent Year of TD

Another Excellent Year of TD 10 years 7 months ago #1

This was my 7th year of playing TD and I think it was one of the best sets of adventures we've had.
All the selfless, hardworking volunteers deserve extensive praise for their efforts, especially Don (the only DM who told me his name) and the overly-perky death-obsessed elf who helped him intro parties to the Sunday Golembane combat runs. Also excellent were the Cogwind combat DM from that same timeslot and Friday night's (7:36) Lycans dryad, werewolf combat DM, water puzzle DM and wisp combat DM.
The first-room puzzle from Golembane Combat (placing the different energy cells in their correct slots) was one of my favorite puzzles ever, just for the sheer fun of running around in there as a team.
At this point, a lot of different people have talked about the problems with lighting and the checkout desk, so I won’t bother with any of that. I do want to talk in a separate post about going back to a more True Tavern mindset for the public area, which I think would REALLY help draw in new players, but I’ll do that in a separate post. I’m just dedicating this to thanking everyone who helped make another year of TD happen.

Yes, it was a good year. We had multiple runs (GB-C x 3, GB-P x 1, LA-C x3, LA-P x1 - One Nightmare, the rest Hardcore, 2 true Grinds)and this year as each run went by, they did not get boring. The decor seemed a little thin but adding an extra run probably spread the visual affects out more. To our surprise we were able to solve most of the puzzles on the first run through, which in the past, was one of our weaknesses. I just wish GenCon was longer so that we could do the runs that we want and volunteer as well.

Most volunteers do runs themselves. It's standard policy that any DM, NPC, Bluehand, props staff, or anybody else that knows how any room works does not speak of it nor do they ask for information about other rooms. I've been a DM for seven of the past eight years (missed last year) but I've only ran once; I've never told anybody anything beyond teasers about the rooms I've run. Other volunteers generally insist that you don't even think of your room lest you spoil the experience for them.
Everybody gets to make fortitude saves.  Again.  Also, mind your step to avoid the pixie, lest you risk eldritch immolation.
