In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Waitlist suggestions

Re: Waitlist suggestions 10 years 8 months ago #13

Maybe the extras do not have to even be in the form of tokens except the weapons. You could just have basic kits on paper, pregens that the player's coach could fill in for the last minute person. Here is how it would work. The wait list person would get a token that would say wait list "Henchman" and some sort of art on it in addition to their normal 10 tokens. The wait list player would pick out his/her character and the coach would have a pregen character stats on paper that can be added to the character card. The only thing that wait list player would need would be a melee and a ranged weapon. I think a green set up would not be out of the question. The only tokens that the coach would have to wrangle then would be two weapons and the "Henchman" / wait list token. By the way the Crimson Wench did a great job at getting people tickets for the wait list. Maybe a wait list wenching guild is order. A waitlist phone line and a poster outside the dungeon explaining the waitlist might be a good idea also.

Not sure if it was done this year but IMO getting people cell numbers when they go on the wait list is the way to go. Granted it can be hard to hear your phone ring but a call could potentially eliminate a lot of the not being able to find wait listers issues.

I wonder how hard it would be to get some of those vibrating, buzzer things you get at a busy restaurant?

I'd be a little afraid of them walking away.

George Pratt wrote: The reason behind suggestion #2 is because some people who end up on the waitlist don't have months and months to prepare. There are a lot of people who wander by True Dungeon at GenCon without any idea of what it is. Some of these get on the waitlist and give it a try.

The last thing True Dungeon want is for these folks to have a bad time because they were rushed into a dungeon without any preparation or equipment they could use. We don't want folks who paid $44 a ticket to say they were ripped off.

The bags I am talking about could be made up well in advance of GenCon. True Dungeon has millions of tokens that have been turned in for reserved tokens. Heck if Jeff would send me a bucket of green and brown tokens and pile of bags, I would be happy to make them up myself.

If a 4 room True Dungeon 101 dungeon were created, with a lower price point to get these new players into games, I think these class packs are a perfect idea to support that. It solves the issue of how to let new people try out the game while not having the same waitlisting issues, it brings the cost point down since it uses recycled tokens instead of new packs, it creates a lower barrier of entry with a lower price point, a shorter time commitement, balancing for new players, ability to spend more time on the "training" aspects, and less random gear.

The cell phone (and buzzer) idea for waitlists actually won't help much in my opinion. Calls for waitlist players require the person to be there now. They need to get into the game immediately.

If they are off somewhere and have to run to the TD hall, then they are probably already too late, as they only had 2-3 min notice before things started.

I think having something to do while waitlisting might be a better approach, so that players stay close to where they will be called.

I wonder if we could make use of the grind space when grind was not in session. All we would need would be a set of training room stuff.

I like this idea. Have pregen stats for AC and saves, and just give the players an appropriate Green melee and ranged weapon. We tried giving green weapon in 2007 or 2008 but I am not sure why we stopped doing it.
