In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Trading for Generics

Trading for Generics 10 years 7 months ago #1

I traded two TD tickets for generics this year. I was ignorant of the GC policy that generic returns can only be credited to the original purchaser's account. My bad; my expensive lesson.

Apparently this is not common knowledge, as I've heard of at least another player getting burned this way, and the 'person with the clipboard' who helped me get players mentioned generics without a warning. (Again: My bad, my responsibility.)

Would it be possible to put up a sign at the TD area, advising those with extra tickets that generics are not necessarily a suitable trade? Something to the effect of: "Generic Tickets can only be refunded to the original purchaser of those tickets. Do not treat them like cash."

That happened to me last year. I ended up just giving the generic tickets to a little girl to play some games with, she was happy.

It's actually in GENCON policy, don't think TA Ltd should be responsible for putting a sign up. That being said they could have the person with the clip board have a cover sheet that states something like that.

Last year a True Dungeon volunteer gave me generics for two players to join our group (in trade for the tickets I held). I wasn't able to get a refund last year, either. I agree that it's not True Dungeon's responsibility to put up signs necessarily--but I do think it's important for volunteers to know that you can't get refunds on generics unless they're in your name. That being said--signs probably wouldn't hurt, either. :)

Regardless of whose responsibility it is (and I've posted about this on the Gen Con forums as well), it seems to be a mistaken assumption by many that generics are as good as cash. A simple letter-sized sign on the doors to the TD ballroom would point this out.

To properly trade generics for cash, I believe you'd have to go to events or customer service, turn in the TD ticket, and have the new player buy it with his or her generics. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Also, please point out to the volunteers that generics are not redeemable except by the purchaser. The volunteer did not explicitly tell me this, but that's an important bit of information on Sunday.

Anyway, thanks for listening.
