In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Must haves for 2013

Must haves for 2013 11 years 2 months ago #1

I am assuming there will token advantages to be had for out runs this year, but beyond silver being useful vs Lycanthropes, I am bit lost when it comes to the tokens that will be useful against Constructs, Gnomes, and possibly Fae. If anyone has suggestions, please feel free to share :)

Shirt of health for lycanthropes also.

I don't think there is anything special you can do about Gnomes. Or that you need to.

Fae are vulnerable to cold iron, there were a bunch of iron weapons back in '09 that did extra damage to them. Otherwise, high saves are your best bet. Will for charm, Fort for poison, and Reflex just in general.

Thunder Stone does double Damage to constructs (according to last years token guide). They are usually vulnerable to Sonic damage (but not Tails or Knuckles), but that is not certain. And there was last year's Staff of Striking. And the Oil of the Tinker is good for Rogues or anyone who can slide good.

The polymorph gremlin potion looks interesting.

Other items that may give clues:

I notice there are several items that resist shock damage. And gloves that resist heat and cold.

A ring that combats confusion and maze

A potion and items that combat charm and hold. Earcuffs that allow you to read and speak fey. Earmuffs that negate surprise.

I assume that the gnomes may be easily distracted by mechanical things.... maybe the Duck Decoy?

Other curious items.

Bracelets of Tinkerer to resist magical magnetic effects.

Various weapons with damage bonus vs. constructs.

Exactly why I would offer the duck to the gnome, maybe it will make him easier to defeat, lol.

Also worth remembering if we run up against an iron golem (and it works like d&d) fire damage heals them so bracers of fire might be an issue.

You can have my ducks when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers! Wait, let's not go quite that far... but I do love the ducks.

Yes, and in my experience a relatively high proportion of traps utilize shock/electrical damage (always secondary to fire, of course). Since Jeff made mention that traps will be making a triumphant return this year, I think I may just dig out my Ring of Shock Resistance. :)

I'm at a loss on this one. Perhaps those wearing metal armor will suffer some hindrance? Or perhaps those using non-silver weapons?

OH MY GOSH! I just had an epiphany. :woohoo:

Silver is diamagnetic, meaning that instead of being attracted to magnetic surfaces...it is repealed by them!!!!

With all of these magnetic effects going on, and golems afoot...

Can you see us meeting a magnetized, metallic golem? I'd bet hard cash on it. If so, all those shiny silver weapons might veer off at the last second when you try to hit! The magnetized golems would effectively have an increased AC if you're using a silver weapon. Of course, using a standard iron/etc. weapon would be attracted to it. This might actually give it a relatively decreased AC, but I bet you'd lose your next turn or something as you struggle to free your weapon (during which time you lose your Dex bonus to AC or something).

Even if this doesn't turn out to be the case in the TD runs, I'm definitely using this the next time I DM!

One thing I was thinking about was the Whetstone. One of my friends questioned wonder what the whetstone is for? I got to thinking maybe the constructs will dull bladed weapons, thus the need to sharpen them. My guess is that constructs might take reduced damage from bladed weapons. So might be a good plan to load up on Gnomish throwing hammers, staff's of striking, and thunderstones, plus blunder weapons (as arrows and bolts might bounce right off.)
