In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

Dear Admins that manage the forums;

Can someone please create an "Adventuring Groups Form Here" SubForum page like there is for GenCon 2012 in the GenCon 2013 Forum page?

If im not saying this correctly someone please reply and help me use the correct language?

Thanks,

This will be my first year at Gencon. I think i am gonna try to try this out. Read through everything and had some questions.

1. If you do normal mode and you die, what happens?

2. Why the different modes - combat, puzzle?

Welcome Jon...yes True Dungeon is an amazing good time and I'm glad you found the forums. Here's the answers to your questions:

1. If you die in normal mode, you continue with your group through the rest of the dungeon as a ghost. Basically you are an observer. You can't help them solve puzzles or fight in combat. There are several tokens that will bring you back to life. That said I've run through with beginners and only once seen someone die before the last room (died in the 2nd to last). Dying in the last room happens and is not that big of a deal, but is better to live of course.

2. In Combat mode you usually have 4 combat rooms and 3 puzzles rooms. In Puzzles you usually have 5 puzzles and 2 combats. But that's just a rule of thumb. Some people perfer battling monsters on the sliding boards, other prefer the mental challenges of the puzzles.

If you die in Normal, Hardcore, or Nightmare modes, you may follow along as a ghost as described above. In Non-Lethal mode, you are resurrected with 1 HP when you enter the next room.

Though not as powerful as the tokens that can restore a dead character to life , if you happen to be wearing Shirt of Spiritward when you die, you will still be able to partially participate in combat. You can't directly damage the monsters, but you can influence your teammates' slides.

The various challenge modes are an attempt to cater to all levels of "gung-honess". (if I may make up a term) Normal mode is the default/standard. Hardcore and Nightmare are progressively more difficult. Monsters hit harder, have more HP, saving throw DCs are higher, failed puzzles deal more damage, etc. Non-Lethal is available for those who just want to participate without fear of their characters permanently dying.

Bear in mind, the challenge mode selected is for the entire party and there must be a unanimous vote to enter the dungeon on anything other than Normal--unless it's a designated Nightmare run.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Gencon is terrific time, and in my opinion, It's hard to top your first Gencon!

Everyone here on the forum is, well, pretty obviously super enthusiastic about True Dungeon. Honestly, though, TD is one of the most unique events that make the con so special. Read over the PDF guides under resources, and you'll be lightyears ahead of the vast majority of new players.

Single players fit in easily, but better still is to go with a group of friends- nothing beats kicking back after the run with the whole "OhManYouGotThatLastMinuteSolutionToThatPuzzleNoOneCouldFigureOut! ThatWasAwesome! AndThatMonster!Wow! NextYearWereGonnaDoEVERYTHING!"

So, ask questions, but whatever you do, Definitely DO try it out! Welcome aboard!

Should TrueCraft get a subforum for meetups?
(the only thing that would have made TC better last year was if I didn't do it solo! :) )

Well I will be coming by myself from los angeles, and I feel like all the tickets will sell out once event registration starts and not so sure if I want to come and be waitlisted.

Re: Adventuring Groups SubForum/SubTopic 11 years 2 months ago #10

Jon,

Good news on that front as this year they have added a 4th dungeon (last year one dungeon had a combat/puzzle option and the other one only had one version). Due to demand this year both dungeon have combat and puzzle. So there will be way more tickets available. Also, last year you could get single tickets well into June if I recall.

So you should be able to get a run or two without to much trouble. Even if a sell out does happen early there are always people on the forums looking to fill some slots as time grows closer.
