Hey all,

Given the impending flood of trading about to take place, I have put together a Price Guide for the new tokens in an Excel File. Hrm, I wonder if there is a way to post excel files here. I could JPG it but then I would need a space to host it, etc. etc.

This is by no means a final list. It is just a first guess but I thought it would be a good place to open discussions on value of tokens etc. and it agrees to a large degree with Raven's Price Guide list I have seen earlier.

What do you guys think about posting this?

I'd like to see it. It would give us a basis for discussion. Please mark the guide as Unofficial so those who stumble across it later don't think it's official.

Dequils,

I'll talk with Jenn, perhaps we can host an excel file for you on the TD North site. I'm not 100% sure yet, and it would still have to be unofficial.

The other possibility is that excel should allow you to export it as a web page - you may be able to paste that into a post here.

For what it's worth, here is Raven's older, unoffical price guide

Wow...I forgot about that link! If she is willing to update it, it looks like a good tool. The Token Guide coming out on Friday will fill in the blanks that a lot of you have about the official use of the tokens in the game. That should help set prices as those perceived values will be more concrete.

I'll ask her to update her site after Friday...keep your fingers crossed! After that, the real trading can begin.

Here is my first wag at an UNOFFICIAL Price Guide. I have also sent an Excel and PDF file to Jeff. Hopefully, discussion will lead to more accurate pricing. But my first estimate was based more on function than rarity (e.g. a rare token X is roughly equal in value to a common token X if the function is exactly the same).

Hrm, having trouble posting this HTML. Can someone help me get this straightened out?

I've cut out the html and temporarilty posted it on my personal site: www.dougstoolbox.com/tokens.html it should be posted on this site real soon now - Doug Martin

Comments

* Why are daggers & slings the same cost as other, better weapons (in terms of damage)? Would give me a sling token in exchange for my shortbow? Probably not. I see daggers & slings being worth maybe 2 GP tops. Everyone is going to want to unload these for swords, maces, and short bows. My comment on the dagger only applies if daggers cannot be used as ranged weapons. If they can, then the price for them goes up, since they'll probably be popular with high strength characters.
* Why is leather and studded leather the same cost? I see leather armor going for at most 2 gp, since everyone gets an armor draw and you can't do worse than leather armor.
* Small shield: since this stacks with all the armors and there are more armor types to choose from, I see this going for a bit more than 5gp.
* Scroll vs. Potion of cure lt. wounds (CLW): The scroll of CLW (very rare token) cures 8 points, while the potion only cures 5. The scroll should be more expensive.
* Anti Toxin vs. Scroll: Slow Poison: As I understand it, these work exactly the same (one re-save vs. poison). If that is still the case then these items should be priced the same.

Only one person can use the scroll, while everyone can use the potion. I would rate the potion higher. They are both rare btw.

Otherwise, my general comment is that items that more classes can use will be more in demand, and thus be more expensive. For example, the Ring of Feather Fall is going to be worth a lot more than 100, since everyone can use it. The Gauntlets are not going to be worth as much, as only a few classes need it, and therefore more people will have them for trade.

bgardner,

Thanks for the comments. And again, this was sort of a first estimate and by no means official or final.

For the Common Weapons, I didn't put much thought into them. Overall, as I have said in other threads, I think they will generally be worthless. The difference between a 2GP and a 5GP item I think is negligible. And I would be glad to give you a sling for a shortbow. I have 4. :)

For the small shield, you are probably right but the abundance of these and the preference fighter types will have for the large shield will still keep this price low. Maybe 10gp? Lets wait to see who can use what. That will be a driver for this price.

The difference between the scoll and the potion was a judgement call. For the Potion, anyone can use. Only the Cleric (and Paladin?) can use the scroll. But 8pts is better than 5pts so maybe a value of ~120gp for the scroll makes more sense.

For the Anti-toxin vs. Scroll, assuming thats true, I might even place the value of the scroll below the anti-toxin given that it can only be used by Clerics (and paladins). In otherwords, if they die, the scroll be comes worthless while the anti-toxin can still be used. Lets see how the final Token Guide describes their game play effects.

Thanks again,
Douglas
