TOPIC: Surprising eBay Results?

Re: Surprising eBay Results? 14 years 11 months ago #13
Are prices on eBay used when assembling the price guide? Or are only prices reported directly in used?
Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.

Douglas is working on other things this year, so I don't know if the Token Price Guide will get an update this year. If someone would like to take on the big task of merging Ebay sales and posted trades, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated by all.

I could possibly work on that if anyone has the info from the Ebay sales up to this point. Unfortunately, I don't have the figures from the tokens that recently sold, so without that information the information might be a bit skewed away from the average. If someone has a record of those, I'd be more than willing to work on that. :)
- I didn't expect to see the Ring of Wizardry go for $197.50. It's great for Wizards, but it's use is so limited. Most Wizards I know aren't very good sliders anyway (probably won't get 20's). And there are only a couple of Wizard spells where you slide. Can someone explain why the Ring is so great?

This IS a high price, but I do understand the desire for one of these if you play Wizard. Not only does it allow double damage on slid spells, but it also gives a plus 2 to hit on spells (which you can't get from ANYTHING else). On the Melf's and Scorching Ray spells that means the wizard only has to slide an 11 to hit.

As you point out, most folks who play a wizard don't slide all that well, so that extra +2 can make a big difference. And if you DO get lucky and hit the 20 that double damage is SWEEEEEET!! I speak from personal experience here in True Grind (*34* damage from a Melf's, BOOYAH!!).

Personally, I consider the RoW to be as or more essential for the Wizard player as any of the other single class items (like Ektdar's or the Boots of Underdark).

The power of the RoW, plus the Ring of Focus and the Bracelets of the Zephyr, makes an awesome combo for the wizard.

If you have an Ebay account. You can log in and search for True Dungeon. If you look down the left hand column of searchable options you fill find a check box for completed listings only. This will let you sort through everything that has sold in the last couple of weeks.

And to be honest, I don't know if prices right after true realm are true prices or outliers due to the high demand...

Actually, for the reds it is probably right on. Purples are REALLY hard to estimate.

That is a good point. I'd be very surprised if recnet Ebay prices turn out to be averages but you have to go with the data points you have. If you got real detailed, you could put dates with the points to catch the kind of anomalies that may be occurring now. Then again. maybe this represents true jump.

I think the majority of folks know not to sell on eBay in the OFF SEASON...Sell when selling is HOT, of course.

That said - I think PURPS are pretty easy to value. At most a current PURP is $250...(because you can get one via the PYP with TD.) After that, some OOP PURPS are still close to that mark or at least $100 in prime time buying. Now the thing that messes with my estimates is saturation of the market...if a Girdle of Giant Strength sells for under $70 = that says to me the folks who value it at around $100 - have what they want...and someone else got a good deal.

I agree with the selleing when it's "hot" But an interesting point's been brought up....is the "hot season going to change due to TR?

For instance would "PurpX" be more valuable before an event, or after?

is there a better market for selling Tungeon completeion tokens now vs after gencon?

I think the Amulet of Oak or a Harpy's claw necklace would sell better now, but will possibly sell for more after ( looking at collector's who weren't able to make gencon)

Ingredients... now those I still don't understand when it's "hot" it seems to me that if you don't plan on using them, they are often best unloaded at the event. Saving them till later can be great, but like the case of last years.. has proven next to worthless

If anyone wants to buy a Medallion of Greyhawk or Necklace of the Oak for the prices listed above, please PM me. I have one of each (and possibly two MoG) that I could part with for the right price.

My thanks,

John

I also think the price of ingredients (bout $20 a pop) are a bit high. Especially considering that this year's combo items aren't all that hot....
