I'm not saying that having a cursed item won't have an element of fun. I'm just trying to point out a potential customer service issue. I would also think that if he doesn't make the cursed item a token that a number of people have then it doesn't seem to have as much of a point of doing it because it would have less effect.

Kim
Given the "water cooler message system" once the cursed token is revealed it will quickly spread as to which token is the cursed item and people will know not to use it.

I'm wondering if he will change the room and the token every couple of hours. I think that would be awesome! Move the token around and change it periodically. Or at the very least, change the token that is cursed every 2 hours even if they don't change the room it's in.

Sounds fun. I can see myself saying "I use my +2 sling" and some music comes up and the DM rips of the cover and plastered to the wall is a giant +2 Sling. All I can do is look down and laugh at my misfortune and say "Ya got me".

I too think cursed token's in one room is an awesome idea! I know I will look forward to it because yes it is definitely in the flavour of a DnD campaign. I think a simple change on the cleric's player card to add a Remove Curse will help. Though if I remember correctly the Bard also has access to Remove Curse. The other thing that could be done is simply the Druid (or Cleric/Bard if there is no Druid in the party) is given a Fey Bread before going into the dungeon with the warning that the special use might come in very handy! If they decide to eat it.... But yeah I think I agree with Kim that you need to make sure everyone has access to the spell if you are going to do this. Otherwise you know.. complaints!

Lady Myke

I plan on having about 4-5 cursed tokens and moving the one token around the dungeon twice a day. That should keep it fun. Of course, I will have to move it forward in the dungeon or some groups will get two of them. A few lucky groups won't get any this way, too.

I think it would be neat if you rotated which token is cursed every time it is revealed. That way two groups in a row couldn't get the same cursed token (and couldn't reveal what they knew). Perhaps the giant tokens could be mounted together into a sort of flip chart that is flipped by the DM each time it's triggered.

Also, can we start the rumor that the cursed item is rope or maybe cure minor potion? :angel12:

Sounds like a cool idea to me. Although, I'm going to go nuts trying to find out what's cursed.

"I'll use my Great Axe." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my Sling." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my Halberd." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my Masterwork Silver Dagger." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my +1 Mithral Long Sword." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my Potion of Owl's Wisdom." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my ...." OK, no effect.
"I'll use my Waterskin". OK, no effect.
"I'll use my Silver Candlestick." OK, you find out that it's a cursed Silver Candlestick. The candles melt and you take 4 pts damage from hot wax.

SWEET, I FOUND IT!!!

As for the prevalence of Remove Curse spells (or lack thereof), when I read "Cursed in one room" I take that to mean that once you leave that room, it becomes not cursed. So, there's already a built-in cure, on the off-chance that you get cursed. So, as long as this curse doesn't cause damage each round (or have some other hideous recurring effect), it should be possible to tolerate or avoid the additional effects of that curse (perhaps by not using that item again for the rest of the room).
Correct. The curse is lifted automatically when leaving the room, but if you want those Boots of Speed to stop dancing (with you in them) while you are trying to fight the Beholder, you might want to have a Remove Curse handy.

This just sounds... odd. Is it supposed to represent an actual cursed item, or some strange magical spell for that particular room?

I wouldn't bring anything into the dungeon that was cursed, but I figure anything found *inside* would be fair game. It'd be awesome if it were possible to mark some of the treasure as cursed, maybe using that UV-reactive ink. Too much of a hassle and confusion, I suppose, but that would represent cursed items much more effectively.

Since you have more than one token, you could put the token in a new room and then remove the token in the old room later. So, during on 12 minute slot, two rooms would have the cursed token. Does that make sense? Just place the token before you remove the old one.

The people that will end up having the cursed items are probably the same ones that have 40 or 50 remove curse scroll tokens in their collections. Heck, we even have a dozen of them. Hopefully, the curse will run long enough for everyone to see it and get a laugh, and um...hopefully it won't be on me.

I eagerly await the Cursed "Horn of Poverty" where the player must discard 3 treasure tokens a turn/minute until cured of the curse.
