TOPIC: Oh...and one more important token fact for 2009...

Re: Oh...and one more important token fact for 2009... 15 years 7 months ago #13

Honestly, I'm waiting for the day someone in the party goes rogue and tries to attack the rest of the party...be it under a curse, or mind influence...now that would be TOUGH!

Then let me hope the Ring of Fire Elemtental Mastery makes you take double damage from fire, makes all Fire Elementals attack you, and every time you deal damage you take damage from the fire shield! =D
Really....not that cool.

Sorry Jeff, but this is something that is going to really piss me off as a customer if it comes back to bite me.

It's not cool or flavorful, its more of a pain in the ass then anything else.

If you're ever offered a draw from the Deck of Many Things, you probably want to take a pass.

Sounds fun to me! (now, if 'dagger' is the cursed item, and the commando group is coming through, I wanna be there with a video camera!)

Is remove curse part of the spells on the character cards? If so does it remove the curse for the room or does the spell have to be cast for each person that it affects?

Kim

Remove curse is not part of any character card as far as I recall. The scroll removes it from one person, and I am assuming the Fey bread would only affect the consumer.

It's just that this could cause a problem for new groups. It's always been maintained that you don't need tokens to effectively play and survive True Dungeon. If it's not something that's part of the spells on the character cards and a group gets a bad token draw, they could have a problem.

Kim

Well first, the old adage of no tokens to survive is no longer true, you need weapons to slide (because fists do 1 point of damage and I am pretty darn sure if thats all you had you would not survive). But aside from that, we need to remember that it is just 1 Room and 1 Token that will be affected and the token will work normal all other rooms. And unless the Token choosen is a common or uncommon the odds of a new player being hit is 1 in 40, as 40 is the number of rares out there, and that is assuming they choose to use it.

I remember cursed items in 1st edition D&D. It was LOTS of fun! Always something to talk about years after the fact. Remember rolling a 1?

I don't think this would cause any more problems for new groups as experienced groups. It will only be a single token in a single room, and even then the token has to be used in the room for the curse to be revealed. In fact, this might be more of a problem for experienced groups because they'll have more tokens and are more likely to use tokens. Additionally, I seriously doubt that Jeff would create a cursed token that would be seriously debilitating.

Jeff,

I think that you need to create 6 cursed items every year and rotate them throughout the course of True Dungeon. Given the "water cooler message system" once the cursed token is revealed it will quickly spread as to which token is the cursed item and people will know not to use it. So, I think that in order to make this truly work you need to vary the tokens. Another possibility is to also vary the room in which the cursed token is active in.

At the very least, you should have a covered token shield in every room so that people won't be sure which room is the cursed room.

Take care and have a great day....

ciao,
john.

This sounds fun. I don't think it will be bad for new players BECAUSE they don't have the amount of tokens, so their chances of having/using the specific cursed item is much less than a player who goes through the dungeon with tons of tokens.
Cursed items are very much a part of D&D lore and I am glad that we have a chance to include that in the game.
Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.
