Oh...and one more important token fact for 2009... 15 years 6 months ago #1

Q. What is the biggest thing missing from our tokens collection?

A. Cursed items!

Nothing makes using magic items more fun than knowing that one of them might be cursed. For instance, the old +3 Back Biter Spear would work normally until you were in a combat situation, and then it would curve and hit you in the back. Having cursed items in the D&D game always made the non-cursed items that much better, and it always made for some wonderful tension when you were using it for the first time.

So, in 2009, we are going to have some cursed tokens.

In each of the 2009 big events, ONE ROOM in the dungeon will have a giant token on the wall, and that token will be cursed in that room. It will work fine in the other six rooms in the dungeon, only in this room will it be bad for you. The giant token will be hidden until a certain time when the DM reveals it at the proper time -- like when someone says they are using it.

For instance, it might be a Goodfruit token, and only in this room will any Goodfruit token actually be a "Badfruit" token. This token, if used, will not heal any damage and it will actually cause the eater to be inflicted with a disease. The token could be a weapon that malfunctions, or armor that falls off, or a Ioun Stone that bashes you in the side of the head.

This should be a lot of fun, since you never know what room it will pop up in -- and what token it will be. We will change the room and the token a few times to keep the cheaters guessing. The effect can be reversed by a Scroll: Remove Curse immediately.

It's a nice touch, an added refinement, as long as its not too harsh of a touch.

Really....not that cool.

Sorry Jeff, but this is something that is going to really piss me off as a customer if it comes back to bite me.

It's not cool or flavorful, its more of a pain in the ass then anything else.

I can't imagine this will be "over-done" seeing as how it is ONE room and only ONE token...

I wonder - would a token that said "cursed item" and was basically just taking up a slot in the pack be any better?

I think the in-game activity is pretty neat myself!

You can't take a few points of damage too seriously compared to the fun of having such a wierd situation that was only in paper and pencil games come to life for you. The good outweighs the bad on this one by a lot in my opinion. Jeff - consider the extra AC shield with the carefully painted paper thin center point that allows a double damage hit by the enemy when the shield is contacted, or the high powered magical cloak with the poisoned pin in the lining that makes the wizard lose his voice, or the goodberry that causes severe diarrhea,-2 to all activities to the eater for the rest of the dungeon, or the most notorious +2 AC helm of skull crushing, that slowly constricts tighter and tighter around the skull until the only choice to avoid death is a disfiguring procedure that removes the helm but leaves the wearer at a permanent -2 charisma. I have more...

ahh bu you need to remember the item is only cursed in ONE ROOM so no long term effects I would believe.

Since you have been given fair warning that there will be a SINGLE cursed item (out of how many possible tokens?) in a SINGLE room then if you choose to take the risk of being cursed and go through True Dungeon then you have only yourself to blame for anything bad that happens to you.
