TOPIC: New 2009 Purple tokens (speculation)

Re: New 2009 Purple tokens (speculation) 15 years 7 months ago #25
They can use them (and the Mithral LS is a great bonus), but Rangers don't have a special token just for them.

Wizard = Ring of Wizardry
Cleric = Mace of Disruption (and Paladin), Gearon's Mace (is this limited to clerics?)
Paladin = Holy Great Sword
Monk = Bracers of Palm/Dragonfist
Barbarian = Great Club of Bashing
Rogue = Nightshade's Short Sword
Fighter = Actually, fighters don't have a special token, either, do they?
Druid = Hmmm - I know the Dragonscale armor is great for druids, but do they have special items? Can't think of any.
Bard = Widseth's Lute

Exactly! Pity the poor Druid, no special tokens at all =)

The Druid is Jeff's favorite class - he must have a Druid-Only special token or two up his sleeve this year! He's probably saving the best for last =)

I know, Bro - a +2 Scimitar that gives a Druid an additional +3 on all savings throwns! :rolleyes:

  Jeff doesn't need a Druid-Only special token.

DM: Sorry, Jeff, but your slider fell off of the board.
Jeff (writing in rule book): Check the rules again, it specifically says that if the druid's slider falls off of the board that it is a critical hit
DM (checking rule book): Wow. You're right. You hit for maximum damage. The monster is still up.
Jeff (writing in rule book again): Uh, check the rules again, if the druid hits with a crit the monster is automatically dead.
DM (checking rule book again): You are right again, Jeff! You killed the monster
Jeff (erasing in rule book): Now the rules are back the way the were before. Carry on good DM!

It's great to see so many people with ideas on future items. I'll reiterate what I've said elsewhere that the non-fighter classes need to be supported and developed dilligently to make sure that people don't all end up wanting to be fighter classes. If the non fighter classes do not have continuing improvements in their capabilities that keep pace with or exceed that of the fighter classes, eventually fewer people will want to play those classes. Since everyone in the room is subject to attack in TD regardless of their physical location, classes that are less able to withstand attack will be less desired by players and should have some kind of compensatory benefits. Right now, the non fighter classes most need improvements that cover the head slot primarily, as non fighter classes rogues, wizards, bards, etc. have nothing at all in this area. Beyond that, wizard have a rare but not an ultra rare for their robe, which does not keep pace with all the fancy armors for the other classes. Cloak of the mage helps some, but in this case, more seems better to me. Wizards would also benefit from an item in hand that complements their weakened armor situation in some way. I would love to a wizard only lanthorne. I have always played a wizard in D+D and it would be a bummer to see this class not have the really neat and unique advantages that made it so great in other venues.

I would expect that eventually the cards we wear around our necks in the dungeon will be set up to indicate which tokens we are actually using during our run, possibly with a human form on the card. I have seen this approach used for D+D elsewhere. It would certainly clear up alot of the chaos I saw in making progress during combat in the dungeon this year.

Just some humble opinions from a TD next to newbie.
Of all the traits of humanity, there is only one we do not share with other species, which sets us apart and makes us unique
-- the ability to imagine.

While more AC items for the wizard would be awesome, I think they have had alot of good tokens lately: Rings of Focus and Wizardry, the Bracelets, and almost all the wands. Maybe the Bracers of Defense will come back, but I'd probably still use the Bracelets.
Maybe something for the mages?

Amulet of Illusionary Armor: This item can only be worn by someone who is not already wearing armor and creates the illusion that the wearer is indeed wearing armor of a specific type. The first time that the wearer is attacked in a room it is against the illusionary Armor Class. After that the illusion is dispelled and the wearer's regular armor class is in effect.

Wouldn't even need to make a new token for that one. Could just be used as the Amulet of Wonder's effect for next year.
I don't know if this should be a purp or a red... but how about "Animal Companion" (Wizards and Druids) If a Wizard, the companion is a familiar which grants the Wizard one re-try in a room when performing the memorization challenge- *however* if the familiar is killed by a monster, the Wizard loses 3 HP. For a Druid, the animal gives a +1 on damage throws (if the Druid throws) or a dagger throw for free if the Druid is casting a spell that turn.
Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.

What no AC bonus to go along with the saving rolls?
