We will come out with an additional run of tokens this summer -- before Gen Con Indy.  The only changes that I know of for sure is that we will probably remove the Potion of Darkvision -- as we don't want too many of those floating around as we have to give imbibers an actual light source when those are drunk.  I had no idea that we would sell out all these tokens this fast.<br /><br />My biggest worry is offending you guys...the diehard supporters and collectors.  I thought that some of you might get upset if we retired some of the old tokens and included some new ones...as you would think that we were trying to take ALL your milk money.  <br /><br />What do you think?  We will need something to replace the Potion of Darkvision...so do you have an idea?  One idea would be to replace it with some token that already exists -- so we don't make collectors buy a bunch more to get that one token.  <br /><br />Thanks!

From my list of "dungeon" tokens, here are some ideas:

Potion of Strength
Potion of Invisibility
Wand/Scoll of Summon Monster (the DM slides the puck with the group)
Belt of Giant Strength (+1 damage)
Ioun stones (+ to stats)
Cloak of Displacement (+1 AC)
Robe of the Archmage
Flame Tounge/Frostband/Holy Avenger
Ring of Protection +1
Gauntlets of Dexderity
Tower Shield (+3 AC) [Only usable by Fighters?]
Silver weapons
Composite Longbow

Ill try to think of some more later.

Dark Vision is a rare. I suggest a second Chain Mail.

I think there is going to be a Major shortage of Armor.

There are going to be about 450 parties attempt TD.

Jeff has said he want half the parties to get one set of rare armor (on average) in the Token draw. That means there will be 225 rare armor tokens available before bags of tokens.

In the first printing there were 30 Half Plate, 30 Banded and 30 Chainmail. If we assume the second printing is the same size as the first printing, there there will be a total of 180 sets of rare armor from tokens.

In total there will be 405 sets of rare armor to be used by 450 parties. So each party is likely to have 0.9 fighter/Paladin/Cleric in Rare armor and the other 2.1 in Studded leather. And that doesn't even consider the Bard who would also like Chain mail.

So adding 30 more Chainmail to the mix won't fix the problem but it would help a little.

While I'm in favor of keeping the tokens approximately the same for this year, here are some thoughts for next year:


EQUIPMENT:
Iron Spike- Place token wherever spike would be placed... Might need some Blue-Tac!

Blanket- Just a creative use item, perhaps restores one point of cold damage if used immediately.


WEAPONS:
Blowpipe- 1d4 Ranged


MAGIC ITEMS:

Scroll of Disgruntled Unseen Servant- If asked politely, DM will do one extremely minor task (go get that book, etc)

Brooch of Shielding- Absorb 5 magic missiles (marked off in ticks by the DM- Sort of like a reverse wand).

Ring of Shooting Stars- Allows the caster to toss a single glowstick once per dungeon. Glow stick must be left in place for the duration of the room. The user must provide own glowstick.

Boots of the North- 1/2 Damage from Cold.

Chime of Opening- One use per dungeon Knock spell.

Spoon of Stirring- Let you exchange each of your potion tokens for a random draw at the apothecary’s.

Periapt of health- +1 poison and disease saves

Hand of Glory- Ups ring limit from two to three.

Robe of Useful Items- in tavern, lets you take any common equipment, weapon, or armor item from the blacksmith, apothecary, etc. 5 patches.



Our party has often commented that there aren't enough permanent magic items for Wizards and Clerics...

Ring of Wizardry- Guaranteed success for a single spell once per Dungeon.

Pearl of Wisdom- Recalls a single clerical spell.


ULTRA RARE:
Scroll of Majestic Foresight- "Resets" a room back to the start, but does not add any additional time.

George,

Quick comment about your post.

Assuming:
2 groups per start x 5 starts per hour x 16 hours per day x 3 days roughly 480 groups. However, you must assume that many people will be doubling up and doing both adventures. So perhaps the number of unique groups excluding overlaps is roughly 300.

Also, keep in mind that Jeff said they are going to give away random armor/weapons AND have a blacksmith where you can trade in tokens so I think they are planning to print more just for that purpose.

Any idea what the distribution of rares/very rares is going to be in the next printing?

I don't think you will offend many people here by retiring tokens and issuing new ones - it's just more to feed to our obsession lol.

You're not going to offend us if you change up the token mix. :)

So...

Remove Darkvision...

Remove the 25 GP Very Rare... Sorry, you can do better in Rares (25,30,35 GP Gems!), it shoud go!

Add a +1 Mace...


Lots and Lots and Lots of things can be changed. As is evident by the huge number of suggestions already! I only see this as a good thing!

I agree with WaterSomePlants, some permanent items for wizards and clerics would be great. How about:
robes of the magi (slight AC bonus +2 or so)
magical blunt weapon for the cleric!! heavy mace +1!

How about a missle weapon that doesn't have a risk of missing (face down) during melee (like a scroll of True Strike that lasts for the room)?

How about more class specific tokens (like the bard and thief tokens)?
Cleric Holy Symbol (rebukes undead for 1pt of dam each in one room)
Bow of the Ranger (removes chance of missing during melee)
Warrior (boots of charging--allows a bash for usual damage plus 1d4)
Paladin (Holy book--heals 1pt once per dungeon)
Wizard robe (for +2AC)

How about a spell book for the mage that is usable once per dungeon, but guarantees sucess for a single spell?

I also really like these posted by dequils:

I'd be really tempted to buy some new tokens for better items for my character. That also means that I wouldn't mind if you don't change the mix much. :) Just please remove the lower gp very rares and rares. It is questionable as to whether gold will be worth much, and I received a bag with both a 25gp very rare and a 20gp gem rare. I know it could have been worse, but it did kind of sting.

Not to mention the super ultra rare +2 weapon??? *grin*

Hey guys - only had one bit of feedback - for now.

Instead of tokens retiring...make a "banned from use" list and make that list change from dungeon to dungeon...it could be a themed reason as well - like darkvision and light will not function in any capacity as there is a powerful curse on the dungeon walls. Or use of such items would cause pain and discomfort to the party.

Now for the brainstorm of the month... :idea:

Instead of adding or changing the standard run of tokens - consider EXPANSION PACKS of new tokens...leaving the standard tokens as they are today...that way new players can get the old and the new...and veteran buyers/players can just upgrade with the new set.

This keeps everybody happy methinks!

So in summary: I don't think people would be frustrated with tokens being banned as the banning can be written up in advance and themed reasons can be presented - it would add flavor to the event in my opinion.

What I think WOULD frustrate people is tokens that can't be obtained at least somewhat cheaply no matter how hard people try to get their hands on them. (MTG Mox jewels for example...) People are already starting to climb the walls for +1 longswords - if that and other weapon tokens were to vanish...what would that do to participation rates?

As for adding tokens – this is really the BIG show – how else does TD continue to get lunch money from the players that follow from year to year??? You have to add new stuff, plain and simple – just look at all the feedback people are throwing out off the tops of their heads. I would say the majority of players would thrive with new tokens made yearly. Now how best to get new tokens into circulation – easy EXPANSION SETS.
