Quick question:

Why is Dwarven Ale more expensive than the Potion of Cure light? They heal for the same amount but the latter has no ill effect and is a rare.

This is more of a Price Guide than a Token Guide question. But you are right. For internal consistency, the Potion of CLW should be more. It should be fixed in the next version.
Better. Still a bit screwy, but that's the nature of the beast.

I sometimes wonder if maybe it's a disservice to even have a priceguide, ecspecially since so few trades are acutally recorded and all of those from a very skewed population. I guess it works out in the end if we believe that forumites on here are the only ones who trade tokens.

Well it seems that the most knowledgable trades would come from forumites where as you can swing a better deal from people who dont know the value or are desperate to make a deal at the con to get a solid weapon for their character.

I'd say the "worst" deals (to calculate) come from forumites...

we do crazy things to get tokens...we throw in extras... and we help those in need...

Heh. Thinking of it like that, Gary, I'd have to agree.
Your average player isn't going to pay the GP values found here.

JKW

There are actually more trades than you are aware. Quite a few people don't post trades and wish to remain anonymous.

I don't think it is a disservice if the value gets people in the ballpark. Price Guides are never 100% accurate. There is no such thing as a perfect Price Guide. Value is subjective and prices fluctuate faster than Price Guides can be printed.

The fact that people use values verbatim is completely up to them, but if values were too far off, people wouldn't make the trades even if the Price Guide indicated it was even.

It just makes me wonder sometimes if newbies think they're being ripped off upon seeing the priceguide or can't comprehend why no one is taking their, by the priceguide, more than reasonable offer. After all, if someone comes up to you and will only trade at far below priceguide, are you more likely to believe that the priceguide is wrong or someone is trying to slip you the sausage?

Personally, I like the Price Guide for several reasons...

Some of them include:
- Not having to think about the value of every single token I want to trade.
- Having a public value that, hopefully, meets half-way between everyone's personal values.
For instance, I certainly don't value the Full Plate at 400, but the way some fighters won't dungeon delve without it, it should possibly be listed at 600. 400 Gives us a nice middle ground.
As my Rings of Protection +1 become fewer in number in my piles of tokens (I think I'm down to 1), I should, in theory, be increasing the price I charge for them. I don't generally do this. It's simpler to use the price guide than haggle over how each item is valued to each person in the trade and then try to compromise on a value for that trade.

Okay, work calls...

I think there is more risk in a newbie player coming out of the Dungeon saying "Hey, I pulled this token, the 'Horn of Plenty' in there" and some guy says "Oh, Ill give you $40 for it." And the player is like "Wow, $40? OK."

What you are describing are prices that are off by a factor of 2 or more. Which tokens in the guide do you think fit this description?
