TOPIC: Gear token stories

Gear token stories 1 year 10 months ago #1

I haven't used too much slotless gear items in my adventures, and I'm seeing some gear on tokendb which is only limited by your imagination and the discretion of the rooms GM. Does anyone have any interesting uses or stories for the various pieces of slotless gear?

Nothing overly crazy, but had a friend distract some rather unfriendly canines by throwing and underduck of doom for them to chase.

In general there's a lot more flexibility for the GMs in True Grind and probably some of the best stories will come from there.

Used a mirror to get a plus to anti stoning saves while fighting a basilisk. Also, non-gear cheap tokens have many creative uses - cherry bomb against bug swarms, scroll of rain shower against a flaming ghost, polymorph giant spider to climb trees on a tropical island to get coconuts for Pina coladas for the party, etc.

Very nifty ideas! The mirror one would be good against Medusa as well I reckon. The distraction duck could be handy in some cases. I've been thinking about ways to find invisible enemies. Maybe scroll of rain in a room and see splashes of an outline, maybe monster gets a bonus for minor LOS block or something.

Not sure if you played it, but there was a room a few years ago with an invisible enemy where you could kick ashes out of the fireplace. Another room where there was a little water source you could choose to use to put out a fire to weaken an enemy. The rooms have a lot of creative options like the gear tokens.

Rain Shower was also useful when a foe had two mirror images - we watched which was the foe who made puddles in the water. It's a "I'll spend my turn making sure the rest of the party hits" token, which appeals to me. One caution: I used it to try to let my party time when an Incorporeal foe was corporeal enough to hit, and when that went for an Official Ruling the verdict was "Very creative so we'll let you do that this time but not on a permanent basis."

Yes, I believe it was a tiger person in that room. We did end up using the ashes.

We used one of the pouches one year. We have used rope numerous times. I always keep on me what I call "Dungeoneering Supplies" no matter what dungeon I go in, you never know if you need a flint and steel

Ah yes. Googled it. Looks right. I believe it was some library or something he was in.
