TOPIC: Token Gainers and Losers in the 2020 Design Race

Token Gainers and Losers in the 2020 Design Race 4 years 9 months ago #1

I'm curious as to everyone's ideas about what existing tokens have gained or lost desirability in the 2020 token design process.

Here is my list:

Gainers:

1. Charm of Quick Strike - A powerful token that is hard to fit into builds - with more Charm slots available from Neck, Ear, or Wrist it's easier to fit.

2. Blessed Tempest Gloves - Fights with Gloves of Glory in BiS spell damage builds - now that there are more charm slots and Charm of Glory, it should be possible for BiS spell damage builds to get both the Blessed Tempest and 3 rings.

3. All volunteer Iouns and Charms - more slots = more usability of these. The +1 stones and charms might find their way into some builds.

4. Cloak of Shadowskin - Now that Brooching is back Cloak's ability looks a lot more attractive when you can easily get 2 or more additional saves from a rare.

5. And a dark horse gainer: Ring of the Hallowed - might actually make some builds with 3 rings.

Losers:

1. Hand of Glory - reprinted in a less constrained slot, and getting pushed out by legendaries anyway.

2. Amulet of Wonder - same as Hand of Glory

3. Gloves of Flying Fist - Now only good for 1 class, who is building to UR only - a very narrow audience.

4. Gloves of Glory - reprinted in a less constrained slot

5. Icecrag Hero's Earcuff - +2 charms and +2 Ioun are probably both more desirable than this effect unless you know you're facing off against lots of cold damage. To a lesser extent all UR earcuffs other than Earcuff of Orbits.

6. Shirt of Blessed Strength, to a lesser extend all shirts that aren't Arcanum transmute shirts.

7. All Redoubt Pieces - The Lucky armor is better in some situations, and so much cheaper to acquire.

8. Charm Necklace - Already under pressure from legendary items, now you're looking at trading your neck slot for like your 6th-8th best charms. To a lesser extend, all UR neck slot items.

9. +2 Viper Strike Fangs - The Flaming Short Swords are better, and the Viper Strike Set is under pressure from better things in all the other slots. To a lesser extent, all mundane one handed UR melee weapons.

10. Ring of Focus - Already exceedingly marginal, if it was in use it's going to get knocked out by Drake's except perhaps in the most dedicated of healer builds. For offensive focused casters a 3 star transmute does more work now. Ring of Frost, Ring of Greater Holly for similar reasons

Do you think Belt of Blessed Constitution loses a bit? Arcanum belt seems better, but I don't know MEC builds that well.

The Ranger cloak is a huge boon to the build, I'd think.

Winner - Shurikens
Loser - Ring of Frost?

Solid list.

This is my #1 loser. It's in all 12 of my builds now and will be in 0 after. Also it's a Relic being replaced by a UR. Honestly I'm not upset either, because I love slot expanders, and it had a long run occupying that slot.

The Charm/Ring/Ioun shakeup is going to be really interesting. Maybe I will start min/maxing some builds...
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

I think GoFF will still be high demand since the relic only allows melee attack at ranged once per room. There will be plenty of players without the Legendary token that will want the Gloves.

I agree, and plenty of them on the market given the legendaries being made.

I think Icecrag Hero's earcuff is the biggest one. It was already not in my Wizard builds when a bard was around, now I have to figure those out again.

Guess I’m lucky I have no Earcuff of Orbits so the Icecrag I picked up at Origins will get plenty of use. As newer players my wife and I essentially use rare Earcuffs.

Planning on picking up two Arcane Earcuffs.

I suspect that even with some number of Gloves of Glory being freed up from people making the Legendary, demand will still greatly outstrip supply. It is so broken every Monk is going to want one if they don't have the Legendary. It's far more effective for the Monk than any other token in that slot.

Biggest loser to me in the set is blessed Redoubt. Lucky set trades 3AC at torso and shield for +2 all saves at a substantially lower price. The flexibly to fit any helm you want is a big bonus as well.

At ear, I expect icecraig to get dropped from almost every relic +build out there for the arcane ear.

Since 4 of my party members are running rare or uncommon at ear, we would be prime targets for the newly available icecraigs, but I'm guessing the availability won't increase enough to cover all the new players that might be interested.

It is a bummer that I acquired Blessed Redoubt this year before Origins (upgrade from Templar set I got last year). If I would have held out a couple of months I would have gotten the Lucky set for a fraction of the price. No doubt Blessed Redoubt is better overall but for ~$1000 for the set you can get ten PYPs.

Looking at Trent Tokens right now, you could pickup Perns Redoubt helm for roughly the price of the blessed Redoubt set, and get enough credit to get a ur for free. That would push the ac of lucky +perns to the same as blessed Redoubt. You would get the hp boost from the lucky set, so the only question is, how much do you want that 2str vs +2 all saves?

Even worse lol, but that does include a legendary purchase :P

I'd rather spend that $1000 on ten PYPs this year (I want like 14 of the proposed 2020 PYPs) and then live with -2 AC and still use lucky.
