TOPIC: Carrying consumables

Carrying consumables 5 years 3 weeks ago #1

For carrying consumables, especially healing, I think it’d be useful to have a belt-attached leather pouch. I use a magnetic bracer for weapons and anything else I need quickly and frequently, but it has limited space.

Does anyone have a leather source they would recommend, or another good solution for carrying a large number of fungible consumables?

I've used something like this (the specific one I own appears to no longer be for sale).

As long as you remember which pocket you put things in, it works pretty well.

I wear a fishing vest - lots of pockets, some sealed with Velcro and others with zippers.

Let’s you easily carry 4 or more varieties of consumable in reasonable quantity with easy access.

Also holds a few small pockets for situational expensive stuff, like scepter of the dead or fallen star mushroom.

My signature has a link to the leather necklace and character card holder that I make.

The various pocketed solutions here are all functional, but not very RP.

The magnetic necklace that Lunk linked is nice but only holds three tokens, for which I’ve already got a bracer.

I mean... can you think of any RP suitable item that has ~4 or more compartments which are sealed against droppage, easy to get into and close again in a cramped, dark room, can hold something the size of a banana, and support a few points of weight?

I can't - so I think you're going to have to abandon RP theming as a requirement.

My group at Gamehole used the slender 24 slot whitman coin wallets for consumables. About the same size as my normal money wallet. Fit in our back or front pants pocket, or inside a jacket pocket. I loaded weapons and other sliding tokens up front on the first page for ease of carrying, followed by potions and other healing items. Mine, as a Wizard was the only one jammed completely full with wands and scrolls (trying to cover every occasion) on top of the healing items. Since they load from the inside seam, my group said they worked like a charm and no risk of anything sliding out unintentionally. We plan on using them again. And they are about the size of a banana  My 2 cents
I'm not going to lie to you, I've been drinking .....

Clearly someone needs to make a few Cloak of Many Pockets IRL.

I use something very similar to this I found at a camping store, Cant say enough good things about it. Keeps the weight nicely centered which is way easier on the back then a messenger bag after 5 days of fun and excitement lol

You seem to have inserted the “4 or more compartments” requirement into this conversation. I just wanted a leather pouch or similar to hold one type of consumable. A coin purse.

Your original note said "consumables, especially healing" - this made me think you were looking to store at least two categories.

But I agree - if you are just after a pouch, you should be able to get something that seems like it fits in a RP environment.
