And every future Eldritch piece will be a non-choice, too, unless the set bonus caps at five.

Same thing for the class legendaries. All of them will lock up a slot, and that’s the opposite of choice.

It’s going to be a very difficult needle to thread, and I don’t have an answer.

I don't have any clear answers either... but a few thoughts on the matter.

The first is that class Legendaries will lock up a slot for that class... but there's the possibility of some other very interesting and powerful neck items coming out later.... perhaps something which isn't quite as good as any particular class legendary, but is more flexible and usable by more classes. It could be a good option for either someone who isn't locked into a specific class, or who missed the class Legendaries and wants to get in onthe next round of cool stuff.

The only trouble there, would be to find the sweet spot where a competing neck item wasn't better than the class Legendary... just different.

As for Eldritch BIS... I can think of a great Eldritch multi-year token which wouldn't necessarily lock up a slot. Make a 3-year set of PANTS. It would directly conflict with the Kilt. Have it be a set of pants which work off the new INT& WIS (& Cha) stats. If those stats do interesting things, we may be able to create an equally desirable Eldritch which causes some people to have Bead-Builds, or Tome Builds, while others are going old-school and focusing on STR or DEX builds.

It could work.... if the path was planned out well enough, and didn't succumb to pressure from throngs of people saying, "This token is too weak, because it's not clearly better than the Kilt."

Raven, what an elegant solution to the potential overhaul to stats in 2020!

I have been thinking a lot about what those changes will be looking like and how they will effect which classes. There are so many possible effects with the changes, it's fascinating. Providing options, without exploding power creep, is an issue in every game. Creating some parallel Eldritch tokens to support the importance of the 'new' statistics would be awesome.

I'll be happy to make it either way.

The teeth already unlock Tiers 1-7. Doesn’t seem unreasonable for the set to unlock Tier 0 as well.

People are going to be clamoring for it to do SOMETHING extra. Might as well be that.

To be honest, I’d kinda like to see “the Retainer of Cavadar.” The ingredients don’t include teeth, but text has “must equip Teeth 1-7.” It’ll make me sad to turn them in.

Maybe in addition to “The Grill of Cavadar,” that does require Teeth as an ingredient. I’d make one of each.

But we’ll see.

How many 1st Tooth(s) do you guys think exist? I assume the game has grown a ton over the last 4 years.

And since all the 1st's had to be swapped for green back, I assume TPTB actually have a tally?

I don't know about 1st teeth. But the registration system for TDC gave us some information. According to that, there were 53 patron badges out there in April 2017 . So 53 8K orders at the time. Or 400+ Third Tooth. Is that the number for First and Second Tooth as well? Who knows, but it does give a ballpark estimate of what is possible.

I have a Rod of Seven parts with a number in the low 200s. Its seems likely there will be more Dentures/Grills/Retainers than Rods.

Third tooth numbers are probably higher than that, because there were probably a number of $1K + orders that didn't reach $8K. There might have been some Patron badges not used at TDC as well.

I do think the numbers have continued to rise each year, so I'm guessing the number of Tooth #1 tokens will be the limiting factor for the number of Eldritch tokens made.

Certainly higher than that. And there were probably 8 k orders that happened after TDC. 400+ is the floor, not the ceiling. I'm sure you are right about the 1st tooth being the ceiling.

This special event will be interesting if there are, say 400 or so people eligible to participate. Thats 40 runs that will have to happen somewhere.

We don't know that the special event is runs, do we? Maybe it's a huge easter egg hunt where each egg has a UR in it. :)

I'd be down for that. I dont use psychic in any of my builds but I've been collecting 2 sets of teeth so my wife and I can do the special event. Part of me is hoping it's a alibasteral style run that ends with us just getting the completed tooth item as a completion token.

I kind of hope the eldritch set is done after the teeth.

It would be nice to start a new ‘elite’ set that could compete with the eldritch over the next 10-15 years.

I mean, I would even suggest it be the set competing with eldritch slots (save the ring).

It also stops the creep of having just one ‘all powerful BIS set for everyone’

That is interesting, maybe start a opposing force to the Eldritch set. Start putting together a plan for a "Darkrift" or "Torment" type of a set. Could parallel the same slots so that choices would need to be made. Some of the slotless could be restricted that you could not equip them with slotless Eldritch items. Interesting thought to begin a new glorified multiyear set for bonuses.
