TOPIC: TDCC Needs YOU!!!!

Alright True Dungeon Community here's the scoop. For a while now I have been working on a image processor that will detect all tokens in a image and what token they are. This will be a huge benefit to coaches as all they will have to do is take a picture of each players mat and poof instant party card. So far I have the token detector working as displayed below.





Here is where I need you. I do not have the time nor do I own every token to actually complete this task. What I need is photos of every equipable token and all of its variations. The images need to be cropped so it is only the token is in the photo and I need them from varied angles and orientations. Each variation of tokens needs approximately 40 different images, this is so I can correctly train the image classifier. I have shared my google drive as a place where people can upload photos, the directories structure has already been created. As an example I have uploaded my photos for the “Mirrored Archer’s Buckler” so you can get an idea of what I am looking for. The link for the drive is here . inexperienced coaches will rely on it and not be able to function if it doesnt work or if the group shows up with 10 minutes to go

Because you could probably do a party card with your eyes closed.

As for me, I find it interesting, but I have some concerns.

I can fill out a party card faster than I can enter the tokens into any existing character generator. While this has the potential to automate the stats for a individual character, I'd need to see how it works for the whole process.

I also would not want to see fewer players use the existing generators.

Even with the new lights in the coaching room, lighting might be a challenge for such a program.

For really complex builds, the player mat has some limitations.


I'm not trying to discourage you, just sound a note of caution.

Well I can give you the other side of the coin on this. As a DM I can't tell you how many times a party card has come through incomplete or inaccurate. And as TD continues to expand we are getting more new volunteers, which is great but it comes at a cost. Coaches cannot all be expected to know every token to ever exist it's just not reasonable. I can also cite an example from our most recent show in San Antonio, a group came through with all token slot equipped but no pregenerated character sheets. It took every available coach to get that group through on time. This is meant as a tool and should be treated as such.

I will happily address concerns as this is a new concept.

The whole process is a concept and is subject to change but the final goal is to print the party cards over hand writing them because lets be honest some of you have the worst handwriting known to man. Also it would be nice to print player aid cards that are tailored to the character. These would remind player of what there tokens do and when they can use them, this has been a major issue with players for years.

Nor would I want them to. Having all the character generators validate off each other is the only real way to ensure accuracy.

This has been tested and no such concerns have posed issues. Only over exposure of light really effects things.

The tokens can be on any surface the character mat was expressed for simplicity sake.

I have to agree I have not been playing as long as a lot of you here but my stats have been wrong more than half the time because of the couches not wanting to take the time..and even one time I was told not to worry that they would probably be giving me better stats than my build anyways...it's just a game so I have never really report it but I think having a tool like this could help a lot. Time is the biggest...then new coaches using this as a crutch and not knowing how to actually add the party card. That is what i am concerned about. If they rely on it. the group comes in and dumps tokens and they cant add stuff without the app. It will be a bigger nightmare for the DMs

coaches make mistakes. so do DMS, admin etc. I dont think this will fix it or help. I really think this would make it worse (in big groups or late groups)

then you will also have to explain why you took a pic of the armor and not the motor and pestal.



my idea would be to put a coach in a booth. People doing multiple runs(without the app or spread sheet) could have a Spread sheet made and stamped by the person. Then the coaches could treat it like the app or spread sheet(checking and verifyin tokens)


i have noticed more and more coaches pushing the app and spread sheet. it has helped a lot

where you can input your tokens and print it off(for your whole party even)

then when you show up, the coach verifies the tokens. It can also help you play around with your stats(swapping one token for another, to get the exact build you want)



this is less work for coaches all around.
