TOPIC: Use for 2017 completion/monster bit tokens?

Use for 2017 completion/monster bit tokens? 6 years 7 months ago #1

On the transmutes page there currently isn't a use for 2017 completion tokens. Do those usually show up along with the announcement of 2018 recipes?

Edit: same question about monster bits

It is unusual that completion tokens be used in any sort of a recipe (other than basic transmute goods).

The one exception was the Ring of Heroism.

Though I kind of wish we had another completion token transmute to save up for. It was rather nice having something to do with them.

I was both sad and surprised when the ring of heroism was given an expiration date; i thought the original idea was for it to be a forever recipe that would always be available for new players to strive for over 3 years of playing (and collecting the completion tokens).
this is not a signature.

As someone in the medium to low end of collecting I would love for a new transmute to open in the next year or two that uses completion tokens to make like the Ring of Heroism. It was my first experience transmuting something and would probably be my only other chance to transmute a relic level token outside of the monster bit transmute I have been saving up for with my group.

Whoops - I actually had the same question about monster bits. Why worry about collecting "sets" of the 2017 monster bits of their only use is to dump into Golden Fleece?

It could be fun to have entry level transmutes that involve completion tokens.

I think making Exalted+ tokens with them may be a mistake, as they are actually very, very common (moreso now that there are multiple cons per year).

Consider: There are ~8000 completion tokens given out over Gen Con. Let's suppose these are 5000 uncommons and 3000 rares.

To come up with 3000 rares of a given type would be 120,000 token 10 packs, enough for 125 8k orders.

It's quite possible there are more rare completion tokens than any other current year rare.

And +1 to wishing for ring of heroism (or some other transmute that takes multiple completion tokens to create) as a timeless transmute. I think it's a great incentive for new players to get rewarded for being repeat customers with a pretty low cost but powerful token

Probably a bit more than 8000 nightmares gwt both. I would guess 10 percent runs are nightmare, just a guess.

See tokendb.com/token/icecrag-heros-earcuff/ and tokendb.com/token/draco-lich-claw-charm/ . Both are transmutes that require one each of the previous years monster tokens to make. It hasn't been announced yet as far as I know but everyone assumes there will be a new version in the next year or two that requires all the monster tokens from 2016,2017,2018 and possibly 2019. I'm not sure when it will come out because while the last one only required 3 years of monster tokens, the current story is a 4 year arc that started last year so it may not come out until after the story wraps up in 2019.

I would be fine with 3 or 4 star transmutes that either just required completion tokens or had a few minor trade tokens to add but I don't see any problems with 5 star relics on the same power level as the RoH if it requires as many trade tokens as the RoH did. Trying to get all the necessary ingredients for the RoH was why I started using the forums so I could buy the completion tokens from 2013 that I was missing and one of the reasons I did my first $250 preorder so that I could have enough tokens to transmute the needed trade tokens. So there are benefits to making a powerful token to transmute the completion tokens that every true dungeon player has because it could increase sales as they collect the missing trade goods.

RoH was extremely cheap for a relic.

Let's compare the recipe for RoH with another 2015 relic, +3 Deathcleaver:

Non trade good components:

RoH - 1 ring, 6 uncommon or rare tokens that were all readily available
+3 Deathcleaver - 1 Ultra Rare, 3 uncommon or rare tokens that were readily available, but in short supply

The UR in the Deathcleaver blows the RoH out of the water cost wise.

Trade Goods - Basic Trade Goods:

RoH required 8
+3 Deathcleaver required 31

Trade Goods - Oil and Bismuth:
RoH required 2
+3 Deathcleaver required 1

Trade Goods - Aragonite
RoH required 1
+3 Deathcleaver required 2

Trade Goods - Fleece
RoH required 1

GP:
RoH required 1000
+3 Deathcleaver required 5000

In my estimation +3 Deathcleaver's recipe requires around 20 more basic trade goods, an extra aragonite, and a UR. The rest of the other stuff all washes out.

So - I don't think RoH is really a good recipe to base future Relics off of, cost wise.
