Am I seriously the first person to notice this? Or did everybody else already know?

I guess we'll see what Kirk & the other big buyers resell them for. But I suspect it will be too rich for me, especially considering we don't even know what it does yet.

You are the first...it appears.

This is designed as a cool thank you to the BIG token collectors who fund so much of our True Dungeon fun. I thought they deserved something other than a Wish Ring. Like the 1st Segment of the Rod of Seven Parts, the 1st Orb is an unannounced thank you gift. They should be arriving on Thursday or Friday to many of the Onyx set collectors - included with their modules.

A few of these will be in the treasure generators every year.

I'm sorry if this is perceived as some how a bad thing or elitist. I guess my brain just does not work that way. I can tell you that event tickets would be a lot more expensive without the Onyx collectors' support - so giving them a cool thank you helps everyone.

The transmuted Orbs won't be these uber-powerful tokens, but they will provide some geeky fun for big TD fans. That seems appropriate for the thanked group.

Jeff,

This is a cool idea, thanks as always. I love the idea of a cool bonus that doesn't negatively affect the power balance of the game. Obviously not everybody will be able to acquire one but I think that's ok, there are tons of tokens I don't have, and everybody else is in the same place, we can't all have every token...

I think this is entirely a great thing to do, to add more value to the larger purchases with more fun tokens included.
I'm sure it will encourage folks to spend a bit more on TD - someone that might normally not go after a big order may do so - and that helps TD as a whole.

As somebody that doesn't have the budget to do those big orders, (and is a little grumpy I have no hope to own one) I still think it's great to give more to those that do buy them. They're helping this hobby thrive, in the same way that nice tokens for the volunteers rewards those of us that want to help TD in that fashion.

Glad that some will be in the generators. I have always felt that the the biggest benefit for the large buyers was being able to help finance their hobby. I guess I will just have to be more frugal with my non-TD purchases and work towards at least one $8k purchase in the future.

Jeff, thanks for throwing some of these into the treasure generators as well - hopefully it will be more than a few thrown in. I'm also glad to hear that they aren't going to be super-powerful. It's nice to see that there will be a transmute available for five of the items as well.

Since this increases the value of the $8K purchase even more - as does the ability to buy 15 WYC tickets - I wonder if the big token sellers will be lowering the PYP prices. It will be interesting to see - I would guess that even more people might jump into the $8K purchase pool given these new incentives. :)

I In my fantasy world, the orbs would be numbered, like the Rods.

Then, when you transmute the Orbs, you get them back. The numbers make it impossible to use an orb in more than one transmutation. I'm ok with the orbs having zero power individually.

But, that way I would only have to collect 13 instead of 21 to have a whole set.

@Mike - PYPs are already too low. I cut my order in half last year versus previous years because of it. If they go lower, I may get out of buying onyx altogether. But I'm sure others will get in. Hard to say where it would shake out.

Do you get mad at Mercedes for making $200,000 cars that you can't afford too?

We don't need the orbs to play TD.

Not only that but we don't even know what they do at all, so I think it is premature to judge them :)
