TOPIC: Statistical spread of tokens

Re: Statistical spread of tokens 18 years 6 days ago #25
The one thing I'm curious about is the distribution of Ultra Rares.

According to the "00" method (getting a bag with a UR token is like rolling "00" [per the token page]), 1 in every 100 bags should have a purple. That also means that one should have been printed for every 100 Very Rares that is slated to be put into a token bag.

Reading the lists of what people received in their orders, however, seems to tell a different story. (The ratio seems to be much, much lower.)

Can anyone shed some light on how many URs were printed this year?

I guess specifically here I want to "shed some light on how many URs were printed". That's not really relevant at this time. Basically, we send 4 boxes of blank tokens to the place to have the actual token side printed. We don't count out exactly how many we'll need for a certain amount of bags, because that would take forever. So, we roughly guess (and weigh tokens) to make up these boxes. What happened with this first printing batch is that in stuffing bags, we ended up running out of browns. I still have plenty of green, red, and purples.

Now, someone is going to say "See....they're not distributing the green, red, and purple tokens like they said they were". YES WE ARE!!!! I swear....WE ARE!!! As I explained before, when getting tokens ready to bag (or bagless as it may be) I do a 10x10 stack grid of tokens. First, 7 browns per stack. Then add 2 greens....then add 1 red. For the "00" bag, I remove one brown and replace it with a purple. I repeat this process until my table is full of 10x10 grids and I can't make another one.

Then, if I'm working on GT bags, I put 30 stacks (3 rows) into a garbage bag. It is closed and tossed into the storage bin. I like to do at least 10 GT's at a time, which comes out to 3 of the 10x10 grids. If I'm bagging the stacks in each grid, I will bag an entire grid, which is 100 bags and then put those 100 bags into a trash bag and seal it. Those also get tossed into the storage bin to await shipping.

Jeff thinks that the 10x10 grids is a bit anal of me. The reason I do it is so that I can physically see that ONE in EVERY 100 has a purple.

Now, if people are getting purples and not posting that, that's their business. Maybe they're sorting or waiting to trade for something they really want. I don't know. But, I can tell you FOR SURE that there was one purple for every 100 bags that we sold and shipped.

As soon as I get more browns from the printer, we'll start doing those lovely 10x10 grids again and bagging the tokens.

Lori

If my posts comes off a bit hostile, I apologize. Just keep in mind that I'm 7 months pregnant and very hormonal! I've been prone to mouth-off from time to time during the day, and hopefully the post won't be seen as yet another one of my hourly rants. I just want people to realize that we DO TRY to do this fairly.

Lori

You guys need to chill on the "something fishy is going on around here" thing with the tokens. Lori is 7 months pregnant and capable of extreme violence. I get to be on the receiving end of her frustrations. I can't take much more! <Ouch!>

If you think we are cheating you some how, don't buy anymore. The truth is probability is sometimes surprising. It's the way the Universe works. Blame the Designer, not us.

Thanks.

Pffft. You call that a rant? There weren't even any obsenities in it and you didn't call anyone an acephalic halfwit. It didn't even come close to showing up on my rant-o-meter, and I'm usually pretty sensitive to those sort of things. I'd give an example of real ranting but it'd proably get me banned :P.

Woah, woah, woah... I never meant to imply that you were cheating folks out of tokens. I was just wondering if Ultra Rares were more rare than anticipated, but it seems that my math (well, okay - at least my hope of getting URs in our shipment) was off.

Apologies if I offended anyone. Just to show you there are no hard feelings, I just ordered some more. (Well, okay - I would have ordered them anyway...)

Edit: You guys need to be careful. If these things were any more addictive, you'd need FDA approval to sell them!.

Edit 2: Please don't hurt me...

One day we'll find the land of milk and honey where every token is a purple and every attack is a crit.

Let us all take a moment and thank Lori for the HEROIC effort of getting almost 2000 bags of token, sorted, organized, bagged and shipped very quickly.

Thank you Lori for getting our tokens to us so quickly.

Ya, enduring the token ink fumes couldn't have been a picnic. I still think that there's some sort of addictive component that's added to things like the glue that seals CCG packs and comprises token ink.

Henwy,

As usual, you crack me up! I was trying to be somewhat nice and also trying to be a good example for the other forum users. It's not good when a "director's" post has to be removed and she has to be banned for obsenities!

Actually, after I beat the *&%$ outta Jeff, I felt MUCH better. :argue: :angryfire: :angry9: :cussing:
Seriously, people, I'm totally hormonal and dangerous. You should feel VERY sorry for Jeff right now. He's living with the devil.

Sorry, honey.

Lori

It all works out. You have to remember that we're only hearing from the "woe is me crowd" in general... the people who bought 5 token bags, and got a purple are probably far too afraid to mention their good luck, and risk being lynched by the multi GT purchasers who got zip...
