TOPIC: Buying Tokens for Money

Re: Buying Tokens for Money 18 years 1 week ago #13

OK come clean time...NO I was not the "guy" (other G word sprang to mind - too much Hogan knows best - sorry) that hunted for 4 of them...and I can honestly say I have never hunted for them...

But I do recall pulling a PURP off the table-top altar in the Tower...I may have been a bit quick on the grab...which I feel bad about...AND I also feel bad that I knew what I was looking for (.com back) and I feel especially bad that it was the only one in the bunch...(thanks Dave for showing us afterwards...JK) I don't recall what it was I pulled...maybe the 10pt cure??? But that was kinda a hard test of scruples...I mean, by the time I did that dungeon - I knew what the PURPS looked like on the flip side...I snatched the first one I saw...

OK - I feel kinda clean now.

INDY is totally right - treasure splitting is a real part of this game - and is intended to be fun and pull teams together not divide them. Spending 5 minutes before a run talking about treasure splitting is a good thing...even if it is decided to throw tokens into a bag and draw them out blind.

Dealing with the split through fisticuffs after the adventure is also a time honored tradition of DnD. Well, okay, more slapfights and namecalling, but these are DnD players we're talking about.

I agree. It is imperative to make sure you know how you will divide the treasure. To some people it isn't important. To some it is a collector's item, but to some it is a memory that could be good or bad.

To me, I love 'em, but the party experience is more important. I remember getting the purple sapphire after a run because the party rolled dice for it--totally fair in the D&D tradition.

I remember giving Gary one of the purps after the Red Cross run (can't remember which, but he had healed Dani and I and shared some red tokens during the event). I carried a pile we found during the dungeon and didn't even look too much at them during the event. After I gave Raven an Elixir because she had actually taken the damage when we found the stash.

It's hard to divy one valuable token among several less valuable or common tokens, but I think if you try to decide before the adventure begins and keep in mind that the experience with your party is the real treasure, you will have a good experience.

Just my $1.00 - .98.

Widseth

Wait - you mean dance offs aren't the norm?!?!? (Note to self: Have serious heart-to-heart with DM before next run...)

Gary,

Green--non emerald hmm what was that. Oh yeah wasn't it that Azurite or Lapis Lazuli--no it was the Turquoise. I thought that was a fair trade for that Vorpal sword of slicing and dicing (in as much as you aren't into sharp thingys).

Widseth

I thought you handed me a green-tinted PURP at the event...fond memories even if the details are lost in the cobwebs of my mind.

Nekura and I just flipped for the one we won... I won .

But I agree with the spirit of what guys are saying so I moved it, and through a couple trades got nekura some shiny full plate (which he didn't have before), and like a dozen or more reds that are more "party" geared (cures, elixirs, and extra amulets/cloaks) and in that way we all ended up getting a piece of it... and our party is way better equipped for this year.

Gary,

I'm getting to the age where it is "cool" not to remember details and have an excuse, but you're not suppose to do that for another bunch of years. I do remember great experiences.

My mom told me a couple of years back. "You've always had a photographic memory, but I think you've run out of film." I've learned over the years that Mom's are almost always right.

Widseth
