TOPIC: Random UR

Random UR 11 years 7 months ago #1

Has anyone actually seen someone pull a random UR out of the pack they get for running the dungeon?

I actually pulled a +2 Rod of Disjunction from my starting pack last year. I had never seen anyone pull one let alone get one in 4 years.

My group has been playing ever since TD started in 2003, with multiple runs per year, and we have had some luck. In 2007 our Cleric pulled a Ring of Focus, which he has used every year until this year, when you have to wear the same rings for the entire Dungeon. And, a few years ago our Bard pulled a +2 Dread Sword.

We've had unbelievably bad luck with the token draws up until last year. We've all had Horns of Plenty since 2007, and Rings of Riches starting last year, so we've done a LOT of token pulls and nobody in our group ever pulled a UR out of the treasure boxes until last year, when we finally pulled one (+2 Longbow of the Sun). I'm pretty sure that is because the UR's were mostly cherry-picked out by people already that were looking into the box as they drew their tokens. I think the new boxes last year helped solve that problem though.

My group has grown from the first year I played. We all do multiple runs and haven't see a UR come from the starting pack yet. Just making sure it wasn't a myth.

I'm curious Mike, last year was my first so I never saw the old treasure boxes. What did they look like (I'm picturing open chests from your description).

Oh, it's not a myth. Was in the ready room when I hear from another table a newbie ask, "Why does this token have purple writing." It was his very first TD run and his very first token pack and he got an UR.

Just to give you some perspective on how rare a random UR is. Even if you buy 100 packs your chance of getting a UR (that was not a Pick Your Purple) is only about thirty something percent. Not going to do the math again on that one.

This played out for me in purchasing about $3K in tokens over 3 years and not getting a single UR other than the ones I picked. Then last year however I not only got a random UR on my first $250 pack but a Golden Ticket as well! That took almost 390 packs of tokens for me to see my first random UR.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

Well, they were just boxes with a round hole in the top to put your arm in. They had some sort of lining around the hole to try to prevent you from being able to see in, but it didn't work well at all. It was really frustrating to be in line to pull your tokens, and see people in front of you clearly looking in at the tokens as they were doing their draws token by token. I wasn't really surprised at all to not get a UR, because some people were clearly looking in and grabbing the best tokens. I'm sure not everyone did it - and we clearly looked the other direction when we pulled ours, but enough people did it to pull most of the good tokens out.

I'm sorry (not really) to report I pulled two URs out of my free packs last year, a Quiver of Anointment and a RoWEC. Unfortunately, I already had both.
