Re EN's thread about Trade tokens in the treasure boxes I was thinking does anyone have any ideas about how to get new players informed/excited about crafting/trade goods?

Putting the recipes up somewhere visible during the early part of the con and accessible recipes like this years scythe are a good start but I'd love to hear from everyone else. If you were a new/causal/token light buyer what would entice you to learn more about the transmuting system.

I think we hit something with the availability of info. I now don't think putting transmuted tokens or ingredients in the treasure boxes is good. Also, in the past it has been a chore to discover when and where trade ins were possible.

I was thinking along the lines of a token that could be instantly crafted out of the dregs that new players get. Something that would take several (any) commons and a few uncommons.

An example would be a +1 damage one use scroll for 6 commons and 3 uncommon tokens. That may not be the best idea as I would not want anything game breaking but something along those lines.

It should be something useful to new people, not very useful to advanced users and non-game breaking. Not sure if that is even possible.

I think most newbies are like me. I had no clue what monster bits and trade tokens were even for the 1st year. By the second year I was saying to myself that I would never have enough tokens to start using trade tokens. Now I am going to be making two Relics.

Another thing that needs to be done is to have the crafting information available at the convention. Most TD players have never even heard of these forums.

I think the spirit of transmuting is in this statement. Transmuting is more for players who play year after year. The new or casual gamer is enjoying True Dungeon for the very experience one gets by entering the dungeon itself. If a player enjoys True Dungeon they begin to want more, more information and more to do. I would say all you need to do is point out the true dungeon web site to those who, after having enjoyed the TD experience, wants to know more.

That being said, I agree a couple more ot the lesser transmutation recipes would be nice. Something like Dwarven Bolt + Potion Pelor's Rage + Mithril Geode -> Sacred Bolt (+2 Sacred Damage)

That looks doable. Maybe even have it limited to 1st and 2nd level characters. I would also include the arrow in this setup and might reduce its power to just +1 sacred damage.

The biggest thing I was talking about was have it something that can be crafted on the fly at the con.

Maybe it can be mentioned during check-in, "If you have the time and tokens check out the table in X location and see if you and your friends can craft today's special token." At the table the person is given the recipe for the low end item and a sheet that directs them to the web site for the higher end crafting items.

I'm just remembering my first time experience with True Dungeon and was overwhelmed going in. It was enough to try and figure out how the system worked. I do remember coming out and wanting more. That is why I think something like transmutation would be better introduced at the end of a run. 'Thank you for coming and we hope you enjoyed Giant's Travail! If you wish to learn more about True Dungeon and what other things you can do in the Storyscape than take this scroll/parchment and continue your journey.'

Great point, there was a lot to take in on my first trip. I remember the anxiety of thinking I would be dead in the first room because all I had was a +1 mace and one piece of rare armor.

After the first run might be the best time to introduce people to crafting. Posters and charts after they exit the dungeon maybe made to look like arcane recipes that they have 'found' while in the dungeon.

OO! just had an idea. Now I know I am just making more work for the already overworked TD crew but what about minor scrolls? Real paper 'scrolls' (small cards) in the dungeon rooms with very minor recipes on them. You have to turn in a scroll to make the item and the only place to get the scroll is by finding it in the dungeon.

THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, Jeff already said there was a problem with people pawing all the stuff in the dungeon and breaking props. While finding stuff in the dungeon is a great idea it would have to be balanced with not breaking the dungeon down looking for said stuff.

Yeah, I was thinking that also even as I was posting.

How about if a person gets an 18,19 or 20 on a monster combat slide the DM hands them one of the cards. Heck, you could even have a little holder with the recipes in it that anyone could take one at will from.

Also, isn't there a transmutation program at Gen Con this year. I think we can pay like 20 dollars for some sort of token exchange program at the con. If this is done right it should do exactly what we are talking about in this thread.

I believe it is only$8 or $12. I'll check and post a link here.

Yup $12 for 8 Truecraft tokens.
