I was hoping people would be willing to share some of their neat, interesting, and creative stories about how they have used the 'mundane' gear tokens. I think even ideas for how one might use some of this stuff would be interesting to share. Maybe after we get some good posts we can elect a Gear MacGuyver whose story outshines all the others.

Personally I don't have any really creative stories. One year there was a puzzle where if we had a rope token we could use a rope to help retrieve a key from inside a magical dome. I believe a 10' pole or something else also helped.

There was the mirror and the medusa, of course.

We tried hanging turkey legs from our barbarian to draw attacks, but it went mostly unnoticed. Maybe I'll make him a meat hat this year.

And I remember hearing of someone using a scroll case as a breathing tube.

We lassoed a victim inside the Gelatinous Cube using a rope tied to a chain (The cube couldn't eat through the chain, and we used the rope to get some distance).

It took a few attempts, but we managed to pull the partially digested victim to safety.

And the cube was much easier to kill without someone inside!

(This was also my favorite room of last year!

Jeff, can you put the cube back up outside of TD sometime (or in the tavern when the day comes)? I missed the chance to get a picture of me inside a Gelatinous Cube... and that would be a wonderful thing!)

The cube one is awesome. That is really creative. How many players did it take to do? Did you have to 'hit' the person in the cube?

Also, that would be cool to set up the cube near the lobby on the second floor so you could take a pic like the dragon or beholder from the convention hall last year.

Yep! If I recall, It did take a couple of tries on the to-hit roll to position it correctly. And then a bunch of us pulling to get the STR to pull the guy out.

Exactly! Like your avatar, EN 429, but much more gelatinous!

It could be for free, or if it isn't sturdy enough to take throngs of photogenic victims, I'd happily pay a wooden treasure pull for the photo-op.

i think we tied a rope to the rogue encase the barbarian rolled bad. We tossed him over the walk way so he could attack the mind flayer

In the 2009 re-dux of a 2003 module (I think it was the 5 Aspects), there was a hole that only a Rogue or similarly-sized creature could fit through.

Well, we didn't have a Rogue, but we did have a Druid and a Potion: Polymorph Otter, so the Druid downed the potion and the DM let him go through the hole. More treasure for us all!

In hindsight, I think that was an abuse of the token; it was probably never meant to be used like that.

EDIT: And I guess a Potion isn't really gear, but that's all I got.

The Cube was a fun room. I was with a person running for the first time and we asked after the battle if we could take a picture of him inside the cube. The GM said no which I can understand since it is TD policy. Did anyone else actually get a picture with the cube? Smoak?

Our GM was kind enough to allow the idea of the photo, but we ran out of time before I could dig out the camera-phone. Bell rings and off to the next room!

I got a couple of Smoak on an evading hilt run. I'd been through once so I was staying away from the puzzle and snapped a few with the iPhone with no flash.
