TOPIC: Where are the 2011 Combo Recipes?

I'm sure I'm just being dense/blind, but after searching 45 minutes for the 2011 Combo Token recipes, I've come to the conclusion I'm not going to find them and have sought help.

Specifically I'm searching for the 2011 Regular Combo Tokens (both gold & monster trophy recipes) and 2011 Trade Item Combo Tokens (which I believe have no alternative recipes). If you can post them in this thread or just point me to the official Dave/Jeff post, that would be great.

Flask of Survival: With three doses of elixir total, consuming a dose from this durable flask will render the character immune to naturally occurring cold and fire. The effects of this magic will last for an entire encounter (room).

Ingredients: 1x Alchemist’s Parchment, 2x Potion of Frost Resistance, 1x Bolt of lightning.

Eel Skin Gloves: These supple gloves made from the skin of a shocking underwater dweller, will charge any metal weapon held such that it will add two (+2) points of electrical damage for each successful melee attack. (Weapons include: daggers, swords, maces, axes, and mugs) Note: The gloves can be used by a Monk for the “Flurry of Blows” attack, adding two (+2) points of electrical damage from shock, however no other bracer or weapon would be allowed due to magical incompatibility.

Ingredients: 2x Minotaur hide, 1x Oil of Enchantment, 2x Wand of Shock, and 1x Scroll of Shockbolt.

Silver Rapier (+1): With a finely forged blade of the purest silver, enchanted to be as durable as steel, this exceptionally balanced blade is said to be devastating in the hands of a master swordsman.

Ingredients: 1x Claymore, 1x Darkwood Plank, 1x Elven Bismuth, 1x 250 GP Silver Bar (or 250 GP worth of gold, gems, or treasure).


Regular Combos:
1C - Wicked Spear: When wielded in battle, any successful attack that results in a natural twenty (20) as an attack slide will weaken the monster as to reduce the damage it can deliver during melee attacks by two (-2) points. This effect only can be applied twice regardless of how many spears are used or how many natural twenty (20) slides are made for a total reduction of four (-4) points.

Version 1: 2x Cutlass, 1x Innkeeper’s Club, and one of these: Chain Devil Ichor or Dragon’s Tooth.

Version 2: 2x Cutlass, 1x Innkeeper’s Club, and 40 GP in gold, gems, and/or treasure.

2C - Minotaur Horn of Alert: Sounding this roughly shod instrument will dispel the effects of natural or magically induced sleep and allow the party to engage immediately in combat.

Version 1: 1x Ship’s Bell, 2x 10 GP Pearl, 1x Air Runestone, and one of these: Minotaur Horn or Gelatinous Slime

Version 2: 1x Ship’s Bell, 2x 10 GP Pearl, 1x Air Runestone, and 80 GP in gold, gems, and/or treasure.

3C - Shield of Deflection: This finely constructed small shield adds two (+2) points to the bearer’s Armor Class. It will also provide an additional two (+2) points of Armor Class protection for a total of four (+4) against missile attacks.

Version 1: 2x Wand of Waves, 1x Sea Elf Shield, 1x Cask of Rum, and one of these: Orc Ear or Ice Demon Tongue.

Version 2: 2x Wand of Waves, 1x Sea Elf Shield, 1x Cask of Rum, and 250 GP in gold, gems, and/or treasure.

I see the forms for Reserve Tokens, Trade Combos, and Trade Tokens, but I'm not seeing the recipes for Regular Combos on the Resources page. Where on the page are they located?

Dave mentioned it in 1 of the threads. There are 2 w/ similar headers.

Do you mail the items in for the combo tokens or do you exchange them at the convention?

Depends on which items. The Flask of Survival, Eel Skin Gloves and Silver Rapier are mail in items. The Wicked Spear, Minotaur Horn and Shield of Deflection are only available at Gen Con. Or such is my understanding, being somewhat new at this myself

I can confirm what KatieG has said is correct.

Basically there are two types of Combo items - Those labeld as Constructed (Combo) Items and those labeled as Constructed Trade (Combo) Items. Those that are of the Constructed Items (so not with the word trade) must be made at GenCon (not before, not after, but at). Those that are Constructed Trade Items can be made either via mail before the con or at the con (and if Dave is being very generous and you best ask first, even after con for a limited time).

If you look at the images for the combo tokens, there are either little cauldrons or little anvil shapes at the bottom.

The normal combos (with the cauldron images) Spear, Horn, Shield are only available at the con.

The TRADE combos (with the anvils), Flask, Gloves, and Rapier, can be traded via mail and all during 2011.

The reasons for the difference are:

1. originally we wanted all combo trading to be exclusive to the event, something to enhance the program at the con.

2. When we introduced TRADE combos, we decided that the recipes would include trade items (e.g., Dwarven Steel).

3. We realized that not everyone would have trade items prior to or even during the con, so we enabled the Trade combos to be traded for after the con, which means mailing them to me, which then opened it up to an all year thing.

Being nice and checking with me before sending a big shipment, is an appreciated courtesy, but I will be happy to make trades with anyone for the trade combos, reserve bars, and trade items (Planks, Silk, Oil, etc.) any time during the year. In this case the Flask, Gloves, and Rapier are available until the end of 2011.

So there will be a table set up for the combo trades? I would like to see if I could get them before our run.

OK now I see how to get the Dwarven Steel and the like but here is my question. Can you construct the prior years items or are you restricted to 2010 and 2011? Or even just 2011? And I still dont see the use for Gelatinous Slime. Did I miss it?
