We are working through a number of logistical things right now, not the least of which is looking at token combinations. The outcome from that will drive the tokens available for 2006. At least I am optimistically thinking so.

Sorry, but be patient for a while longer.

is there an approximate date on the releasing of 2006 tokens? will it be an A and B type run like in 2005?

We are working on a number of behind the scenes issues right now that will affect tokens, so we want to make sure that all those decisions are made before proceeding.

My best guess is that we will have only one edition this year, and that it will be available in April. I hope to have more info within a month.

Thanks!

Not to be a pest, but it's been a month and 10 days. Any update?

Have you given any thought to the concept of "rarer" token pack?
For example 1 rare, 4 uncommons and None common tokens?
Or just 2 rares?

I would be happy to pay the same for a pack like this as I would for the standard 1, 2 and 7 and it would cost you half as much to make.

I had suggested a while back something to this effect but more in response to a SHORTAGE of Very Rares.

Given that Commons on average = $0.34
Rares on average = $1.26
Very Rares on average = $5.10

$5 - Travelers Pack - 10 commons, 1 Rare
$10 - Adventurers Pack - 7 commons, 2 Rares, 1 Very Rare
$15 - Nobles Pack - 4 Commons, 3 Rares, 2 Very Rares

So for the same cost ($30), here is the breakdown:
6 Traveler Packs = 60 commons, 6 rares
3 Adventurers packs = 21 commons, 6 rares, 3 VRs
2 Noble Packs = 8 commons, 6 rares, 4 VRs

This would be a nice combination of options to appeal to all types of players, from those that don't want to spend a lot but still get some useful stuff and the "feel" of having tokens to the hard-core TDers that already have every common and are only looking for Rare/VRs.

So Jeff, is anything like this planned for Indy?

just throwing out ideas.
-Douglas

This is an interesting idea, but I am not sure how Lori, Goddess of Tokens, would react to the news. Since she is now almost 5 months pregnant -- I ain't gonna tell her that I want to make the tokens more complicated.

[move]NEWS FLASH! TD Creator Found Dead Under HUGE Pile of Tokens![/move]

We should have an announcement about tokens in March. Hang in there.

Okay guys, um, by putting out packs like that aren't you creating more rares and very rares, thereby making them less rare/very rare, and devalueing them?
If you keep them in the same current print ratio, and make bags like that. There will be significantly fewer bags of those for sale. How many are really going to be buying tons of commons, so those bags won't hardly move. Also the newbies won't have a decent mix so they have something for trade fodder.

Of course I'm sure you guys have probably thought a lot more about this than I have. And probably have experience in other collectible type games whereas I do not.
But I just wondered what that would do to the rarity scale and also how that would affect the trade between newbies and collectors.
I mean after all if you guys could simply buy all the tokens you wanted, why bother to trade or have that interaction? Isn't that part of the appeal? Or at least thats what I had thought.
Admittedly I'm not a collector of anything, so as always I'm a know nothing. But I merely toss the thoughts out there.

Hey Jeff. Thanks for the post.

Perhaps we can recruit some volunteers at Indy to make some bags. ;^)

DD, I like that you are thinking about the devaluation! :^) I was thinking about that as well and actually, this mix has less of an impact than you might suspect.

You need to look at #/$ of the Rares and VRs. Rares scale with cost per bag so there is no net change in percentage to the number of Rares in circulation. In otherwords, if you spend $30, there are 6 rares regardless of the bags chosen from this mix. For VRs, its a little trickier. Given that Noble packs are $15 and not $10, the VRs are a higher percentage relative to the average 1.33/10 vs. 1/10 (so this is worst case scenario). However, given that the Travelers Packs will be purchased as "Intro sets", this should keep the percentage of VRs relative to other tokens in check.

-D
